Anyone know the cheapest place to buy the Cartoni?

call Abel (pete in NY or Jared at LA ) they have DVXuser discounts.

Cartoni focus is what me AND Barry Green both use now for our HVXs, we both at the Bogen 503 but its just too light for a loaded HVX.

I was going to buy the Vinten as well, till i went in to buy it and while i was waiting started playing with the Focus... was sold in 3 minutes.

I did a review of the focus here:

Jarred, it's ol' wells here. Dude, you got to check out the Cartoni Jib. I just got mine today from Tommy@EVS and it's totally kick ass. I love it.

Hi guys, posted a comment next to the article i shuld have posted here about tripod legs for the cartoni focus, if somone could please read it and post here id be most greatfull, thank you.

:)

I use a Vinten 100 Head with 2 stage Carbon Fibre legs. Over Kill yes i know but I've had this for 5 years now, when I carried a DigiBeta Camcorder or other full size camcorders and its still going strong.

i'm using a bogen 501 head with miller solo carbon fiber legs. doing a lot of mobile shooting on the street so weight is an issue, and the miller legs are light and surprisingly strong.

I would jump into the sachtler suggestion(not because iam german..harrr), but it makes sense to spend more money in the beginning if you can, otherwise you will pay twice if you buy a cheapone, cause it wount last for long.

The place where i bought my hvx at the end of march(1st ones in pal land) told me when i came back after 1 month of documentary with my sweet new hvx in italy..."how did you do, got nice experiences=..unfortunatly we cant say much, cause our hvx got totally damaged after one week, and we cant get a new one in europe before beginning of june.."

The reason for the excident with hvx was a client using tripod that wasnt heavy and steady enough, so definitly one should keep in mind that there IS areason for professional tripods, not just a fluid had..!

I own/use the Sachtler DV6- been fantastic! Holds up to 15 lbs and is smooooth. Would easily recommend it to anyone.

I've been using a Bogen 503 Head with 3046 Sticks. It's not fancy but it does the job.

Chris

Same here except I have the 3240 sticks and they work pretty good, but I just have the camera and a marshall monitor on it.

Hi Everyone

Can someone please tell me what the diference is between the "feel" and movement of the Cartoni Alfa II (which I currently have) and the Cartoni Focus? Since both support up to 22 pounds I was wondering which one is better. I can't remember what I paid for the Alfa II but both seem to be in the same price range.

the focus has adjustable spring, lighted bubble etc.. its basically the new version of the Alfa... I would say the Cartoni has a much better feel, and is a much better price.

I never liked the pan movement of the Alfa, the tilt was nice but the Pan always seemed nonfluid to me.

okie dokie. I have 1500 to 2000 dollars to spend max. Whats the best HVX capable tripod for that price range, i would stretch annother 500 if it made a huge difference, i like the sound of the cartoni focus, but apparently the legs are a B**ch.

Need something that i can use here there and everywhere with good portability. Amazing stability, and hopefully not tooooo heavy.

I'd recommend a Sacthler DV8 and a 100mm bowl. The DV8 is an awesome fluid head with plenty of friction settings. Having a 100mm bowl as opposed to the standard 75mm bowl option gives you flexibility for hi-hats and and other mounts you would find on dolly's that typically have a 100mm bowl adapters.

For legs, I'd go with Miller. They have a great set of legs that have a binary lock system where you twist it to unlock and twist back half a turn to lock into place. Not a cheap setup but definitely a solid setup.

the focus is 100mm as well.

Ill second the miller legs as well.. they are solid.

DV8 isnt worth the money anymore.. its a great head, 5 years ago i woulda died for it, but it maxes out at 18lbs. Sachtler markets the DV8 as a "backup" head which tells you something.

A stupid comment i have as well is the DV8 uses a tiny little square plate that when attatched to the bottom of the camera with rods it isnt very stable when you lay it on a table. The DV8 is also $2200 just for the head.

That said, Sachter is the choice for Rental houses and from my experiences shooters buy them and they last for a decade without much maintanence... they are very solid. I havnt had the Focus long enough to comment on its long term durability.

Can anyone tell me if the Focus head would work well on Miller legs? Anything that would hit or rub wrong? Might look a little weird but as Jarred says, the Miller legs are one of the best.
