HVX for rent in Orlando?

Hi all... my producer is looking for a local HVX to rent for two days in or near Orlando, and she said she was having difficulty finding a rental house that carries them.

NOT looking for a camera from a private owner (or else I'd ship mine down) because this is a skydiving test and will be bolted to the helmet of a professional dive cameraman (He wants to get comfortable with the HVX before our big shoot in June).

Thanks in advance. We've got alternate plans if nothing is local, but I wanted to put this out there.

Regards,

Jim Arthurs

I'm local but that sounds risky as hell... You could try two places... V.E.R. Video Electronics Rental ( I think) in Orlando and also Encore Broadcast sales in Winter Springs... Send me a PM if you are having difficulty locating them...

I know a few private owners.. but yep, might be the ticket here... Not sure if you will find something but those are good places to start...

Now, I would like to see that footage!

And you shall :) It will be 720 24N shot at 36fps with a slightly crisper shutter, maybe 120 degrees, and I'll post the tests.

The jump guy is GOOD. Big film and commercial credits. Our shoot in June will be 12 jumps worth over 2 days. He's just never had the HVX lashed to his head and wants a test run. I just don't want it to be my HVX, if you know what I mean. :)

Thanks guys, I'll pass on the info to the producer. One of those places rings a bell in my conversation with her. Somewhere she looked couldn't provide anything until late next week and the P2 was a big time extra. Most likely she will pass down a local rental, which has the advantage of coming back to town with the takes on the P2 cards. Just need to intercept before they purge them.

OMG... He's going to have it lashed to his head.... does he know that the cam is a phattie and quite heavy.... That's one hell of a whiplash if he impacts with the cam on that thing...

Can we also see pics and video of the phat bertha on his melon? Is he also going to use a lipstick cam as well?

Justyn,
Check this out

http://www.skydive.tv/

Joe Jennings is one of the premier skydiving
cinematographers. I have his DVD very cool.
I used to skydive every weekend, until I got married......
Funny, I used to do a lot more stuff, until I got married.....

Man... That is incredible stuff... OMG... That's guys the MAN! Any chance of coming out to just check him out...? I'll shoot my HVX from the ground just to witness that stuff... Let me know.. I'm sure my kids would go crazy to see that stuff.

He must be one of the premiere guys.. and also feerless and crazy... WOW

I found Joe Jennings when do stock footage searches.
I have customers looking for different things all the time. If MotionZoneHD.com does not have it (yet) I have to go and point a customer in the right direction even if I cannot make a sale.
Joe also has a great bunch of timelapse footage, we found a shot he had of some LA fast traffic.
But Joe has nothing to do with what Jim was looking for.
Joe has helmet cams with largish 35MM or 16MM film cams.
One shot of him in the video shows a 35MM film cam, a 35MM still camera and a small video camera all bolted to his helmet.
I am sure Jims skydiver could bolt an HVX flycam to a helmet with no sweat.
Since most dives only last a few minutes the P2 capacity would be no problem. Not to mention having immediate feedback after landing!!

Hi guys... "our" diver/photographer is Norman Kent, and yes, this fellow has had 35mm motion picture cameras strapped to his head so the HVX won't be much of a problem. He did the air-to-air on the movie Eraser, and many more big productions.

Here's his website;

http://www.normankent.com/

He's really looking forward to some tests this weekend with the camera we're sending him. I'm helping him with some scene files, camera setup, and workflow issues remotely.

Ultimately in June we're shooting 4 to 6 real skydivers over two days and my job is to add approx 70 extra CGI divers (and a couple extra drop planes) as they create a pattern in the sky of the client's logo. Should be fun. I'm happy to share the step by step since all the action footage will be HVX.

Jim Arthurs

Okay, as I promised, here's a couple of shots from the 15 amazing minutes Norman Kent shot last weekend in prep for our project in late June...

http://ftp.datausa.com/imageshoppe/outgoing/HVX/Norman_Kent.wmv (12megs)

Please, please, right click, "save link" and don't stream it.

First shot is his first jump with the HVX on his head. Second jump is the last footage he did, and he and his partner are going 180 mph in that dive. Stressed the OIS a bit, but you know, how could it not?

The HVX performed like a champ, and had great flight dynamics.

Jim Arthurs

Just saw this thread. Funny, but I was talking to Norman Kent at the drop zone about the HVX on the day he was doing these test jumps. Small world.

... and wait 'til I write up the results of the actual shoot... :).

I'm just two weeks out from finishing the post VFX and can share some footage. This project has dominated my summer.

Norman is a class act and a great guy. BTW, talking to him this weekend... he used to jump with and around Jim Jannard of RED fame in the '70's. Now THAT's a small world.

Jim Arthurs
