Avid Xpress HD Pro and ATI X1400

Has anybody had anything good to say about this combination?

Avid forums say most ATI cards are not suitable...

does anyone have anything to say this is different?

I was once running Xpress Pro HD with a Radeon 9800 pro without a hitch. The combo Never let me down.

I had an Avid box running on an ATI 9600 Pro, but there were hitches. Your mileage may vary, but I really don't see the point in going with ATI over Nvidia. You're not going to be saving any significant amount of cash and if you ever need the help of Avid tech support the first thing they're going to say is "ATI, huh?"

My Radeon 7500 has been good to me, but I probably will go Nvidia next time rather than risking another roll of the dice.

funny u ask about this actually, i just recently bought Avid Xpress Pro 4.6 and was having serious troubles with my ATI radeon 9600 pro 256mb video card. the most serious problem being that video would not capture or play at all. one of the first things the avid forum people reccomended i do was to try a nvidea card.

fortunately i had one in my other pc so i swapped them over and now, after a driver update and a couple of tweaks to the settings, it all works pretty sweet.

admittedly, it is only a 128mb 5700 video card, not the most powerful, but it does the job for SD editing. i may end up upgrading to a 256 to gain back some processing power and maybe upgrade my ram from 1 to 2 gigs.

i recommend checking out these links below, they were the ones that helped me sort out my problems with avid. one thing you will learn as time goes on, as i did, is avid is extremely picky with what it will and wont work on!
