Saving Scene Files on SD

Hi,

Looked around and couldn't find an answer on this...is it possible to save a scene file to the SD card on the camera (i would think it is...) and if so, how exactly do you do this. I can't seem to find the info in the manual and it's not obvious by going through the menus.

Yeah, I found that...I guess I'm not sure how the interface works with regards to creating a new scene file in the camera and then saving to to the card...or loading scene files from the card to use...
 
Nothing too complex; it's not too different from saving the scene file in-camera. Just click "save", select one of the four positions to save it in, assign it a name, and it saves the whole package of six scene files to the SD card.
 
So let me see if I get this...

You make changes to the original Scene Files and then go to the SD menu and select save...this saves all 6 scene files under one position.

Then, when I want to load them, I go to the Read selection and it loads all 6 back into the regular Scene Files (the ones that are selectable from the wheel on the back of the camera)...

Is this correct?
 
Correct.

You can have four files on the SD card, and each file contains a package of all six scene files. You can load them as a package of all six, and swap them between cameras.
 
I see in the manual that you can use many different sizes. What size would make the most sense to use for this purpose?

I have a 1GB SD card in there now...not sure if it matters though for the scene files. As they're just text files, the 4 slots for the scene files should fit on pretty much any size card.

Hi all,

I've read through the thread and manual, and I'm a still a wee bit confused. It looks like I can only save 4 scene settings through the scene file menu. How do you go about saving 6 file settings under one file? It looks like the camera wants to overwrite my previous saved file if I try to do that.

If I'm doing the math right, does this mean I can have 6 saved file settings in each of the 4 files, or 96 scene settings?

Also, what's the difference between the scene file and the user file?

The scene file dial on the back of the camera cycles F1 through F6 and that is where you get 6 scene files. All 6 of those together get saved as one file when you save to the SD card. So yes, you can get 24 scene files saved. 4 batches of 6.
 
Just want to check- You cannot assign recording setups to scene files or assignable buttons on the bottom of the camera correct? ideally I'd like to set 720 24pn/24 fps to one button, 720 24pn/ 60fps another button, etc. is this possible?
 
No but you could do that with the User files and set them up against the scene file dial. I set my camera up to shoot 720P24PN, and the other scene files are variable frame rates. The scene files can load right over the top, as there are no operational functions included in the scene files.

So with this, Jan, I can do a fast motion 4fps shot to normal 24p motion without having to stop rec, right? Same applies to pal, I assume?
 
Yeh, I have a 1 gig from my digital camera in there now. Reminds me, I'll go tonight and get the smallest one I can.

Barry, let me make sure I got this straight...
Once I save a file to the SD card, and I power down, the last "saved" file is the one loaded. Right? Does it matter if the SD card is removed later?

I still think it's kinda odd that the camera doesn't use the last "used" settings, but oh well, as long as we know this going in, it ain't no big deal.

I'm still confused, I've read those pages in the manual and still can't figure it out. I have Barry's scene files on the HVX CD, and I want to use some as my scene files. I have an SD card in my HVX. Now what do I do to get those scene files from my computer onto my camera?
 
The way I do it is I have the camera format the SD Card. Then I go to Card Functions and save the current Scene file to the Card. This establishes the folder structure and gives you a clue as to the naming convention of the scene files. Once this is done, I take the card, put it into my computer and transfer the files in question to the last folder in the set. Make sure you follow the naming convention and don't put more than 4 SCENE files in the folder. Also make sure the files you are using are for the camera you have.
