This is a project we worked on for the Ball State Museum. We used a Z1 on this project at 60i. There was little color correction used for this, with the exception of the interview from Peter. The camera is a little too sensitive to infra-red light and made his face cherry red.

And then the fix in After Effects.

Ask any questions, I was the engineer on set, and I did the post-production back at home.

Looks great. Although it broke up a bit on the computer I used at Uni. Don't think it was fast enough to handle the file.
What post path did you use to go from 60i to 720p?

I exported 60i from the NLE.

The Progressive part was made by using staxrip, a free encoding utility frontend for Divx, Xvid, and X264.

Inside the staxrip program, I did the resize and the deinterlace on the encoding filters, That way I was able to make an DivX inside an mp4, I used my copy of Nero to create the aac, and was all compiled into a small, but useful 50mb package.

(P.S. Staxrip does all the converting for you and use of all the programs, its a frontend based off .net framework 2)

Don't use quicktime to view this and you'll have no problem. Actually don't use quicktime to view anything. It sucks.

Download VLC Player and use it for everything you watch. It's the firefox of viewers.

True, but Alot of people have Quicktime player installed, and being compatible is a good thing.

Yeah, the open source software will always be better, but its generally not as user friendly.

ANGRIUS,

That VLC player is the absolute bomb.

I don't know why I love playing video as my wallpaper, but its kick butt. Great suggestion.

The Z1U doesn't shoot 24 frames at all, it shoots either 50 fields or 60 fields. And it doesn't do 480p at all, it does 480i for DV, although you can use its CineFrame 30 mode to do a good simulation of 480/30p.

It doesn't do 720, you'd have to simulate that in post.

The de-interlace filter in the StaxRip isn't just a simple de-interlace filter that you would apply say in an NLE like Final Cut. It has it's own algorithm to keep the resolution to a maximum when going to progressive scan.

This shoot was shot and edited in 60i straight in Adobe Premiere Pro 2 without using an intermediary codec.

It was blazin fast, even with nested AFX sequences for color correction and lower thirds. It was a quick shoot with a total time of 2 seven-hour days and 3 days of work on the comptuer for Editing, graphics, color and all.

I dare say it's quicker than any Cineform workflow method just because i just imported it like I would with DV, but the software handles the mpeg like its DV.

Having a AMD X2 64 at 2400mhz helps too. =D
