Yes, the camera is an intersection camera. They have them at almost all intersections now, so the Transportation Department can monitor traffic or in case there is an accident they can check and see who is at fault.

Justin - I agree, but I don't think the skeptics are saying it was staged. They're saying some of the cars are CG. Because they're using security camera footage the quality is low enough to where "someone" (maybe Rich Lee) can manipulate the footage without people suspecting anything. It's difficult to believe anything you find on the Internet now because some kid with a computer is always trying to pull a fast one. We've all been fooled by CG footage before.

It would be possible to CG the car that runs the redlight, the SUV that stops, and manipulate other things in the shot. The only reason I think its real is because this would be an awful waste of someones time and skills and also, luck happens.

I totally agree with you PK. I just decided to take it from an 'intellectual' point of view. You have all valid points and I agree with all of them.

I really do think that it's real. If you watch the people crossing the street, they stop in front of the van when the car reaches the intersection, they look like they were anticipating an accident. Once the accident doesn't happen, they continue crossing while watching the car continue down the road.

If it's composited then it's awesome.

If it's fake it's awesome.

I love that CG has gotten so good that we are forced to reaccess images for what they are. Imagine what you see on the news now and ask your self the same questions.

I say Real, but they changed the speed of the footage. watch as the people and the bicycle dude come into the scene they are moving seemingly faster than normal. Speeding things up would make this look more dangerous than it really was. If traffic was moving slow it could be done easily and still look pretty realistic.

Yep, thats exactly what they did.

Watch the beginning of it, and right after he passes, it goes right back to normal. Its definatly real, but they speeded the tape up for acouple few seconds, then let it go back to normal after he passes.

It would be nice to see the timecode for this footage - heck, if it's a traffic camera, then it *should* have burned on timecode on the image.

Actually.. where *is* the TC burn?

Very interesting discussion though.
