Oldboy

Okay, I just saw Oldboy (Korean, 2003). WOW! WOW! WOW!

I know this movie must have been discussed before, but I was looking into purchasing Battle Royale and during my search found this movie. On a whim , and based on the good reviews I bought it.

HOLY! This movie is phenomenal. If you haven't seen this flick, PLEASE pick it up. I am absolutely floored by this movie. The cinematography, direction, pacing, score, story, I mean, give me a break. This movie. I'm still in awe of some of the scenes. Since the movie is a 2003 flick I probably would have not said anything. But, I was looking at IMDB and saw that Hollywood is remaking a version of this. PLEASE see this one. This one did not play it safe at all. So, I'm imploring anyone and everyone who hasnt seen this movie to rent it, borrow it, Amazon it, whatever. Just please see this one before the remake ruins it.

Thanks for letting me spill-
Rick
PS If youve seen this and have any comments, I'm all ears (eyes).

Chan-wook Park is the man.
Check out these films;
JSA
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
The guy is BADASS. His filmmaking is beautiful, horrible(in a good way) and emotional. Very few can spin emotion like this guy. He is almost unique.

I haven't seen all his films. I'm waiting to see Lady Vengeance. It's hard to find his stuff with out selling you're arm.

He is already a master. I wonder what the future will hold?

Yeah. This was my first time watching one of his films. I am definitely going to look at his other titles. I mean, wow.

Here are a few pictures that are supposed to be promotional material for the film.

I really can't wait to see this. Actually, I can't wait to see Lady Vengeance. It's in the mail right now and can't get here soon enough.

As excited as I am about Park doing a scifi film, I'm even more excited about the horror film he'll be shooting soon.

Park + Vampires = Crazy Delicious

Yeah, Oldboy was pretty powerful.

To be honest, I didn't know it was Korean until I chose setup in the DVD menu. It's nice to see a movie for once for which I had absolutely no prior knowledge.

I love him. I admire many filmmakers, but for some reason that I can't totally put my finger on he might be my favorite overall.

Every filmmaker should check out Oldboy. It has such a wide palette of color ranges and cinematic style in the one film, add a cool story, it rocks!!!

I dig Mr. Vengenance even more.

His was also the best of the 3 Extremes!!

Well, I cant wait to check out the rest of his stuff. If his other movies are nearly as good as this one, I'll be psyched. He just made a long time fan outta me.

I had only read the brief description on Netflix, and me and my daughter were blown away by this one! Awesome movie!

YEAH WELL I WANTED TO SEE THIS ONE, HAD IT IN MY HAND AND MY GIRLFRIEND WASN'T THRILLED TO SEE A KOREAN FLICK SO I PUT IT BACK AND HAVEN'T SEEN IT ON THE SHELF SINCE! sorry i'm pissed off, i will find it.

Hey Kimko-

Why not do what I did? Order it from Amazon. In a week, when you've forgotten all about it, Mr. UPS will knock on your door with a package for you. When I cant deal with finding a movie at my local rental place, Amazon becomes my best friend!

If you liked oldboy i would also recommend, a bittersweet life, lady vengance(end of parks trilogy of revenge) three extremes, peppermint candy.

Just got a hold of it and watched.
Whoa. Thats all i can really say for now.
Oh and the girl was hot.

yes, I agree, AMAZING FILM. Picked it up about 6 months back and finally watched it last month. It floored me, such depth, such symbolic visuals and incredible narrative.

Defintely puts American films to shame.

Asian cinema is some of the strongest. For years, I loved films from Japan and China, but between this and the icnredible Spring, Summer, FAll, Winter, and Spring by Kim Ki-Duk, I'm sold on Koread being the spot for new incredible films

Picked up Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance a few weeks ago.

Unbelievable.

Waiting on the theatrical release of Lady Vengeance.

I have no way of really knowing what's good or not in asian cinema, unless folks like you all here tell me about it. So I usually check out whatever movies come on AZN television. I see some really great films on that channel.

got to see this last night. ****ing RAD. krazy stuff. the comps and lighting were amazing. had to turn my head in the 'dentist' scenes. and the ending was ****ing insane. wow. wow.. and wow.

On the topic of asian cinema, do yourself a favor and watch Nobody Knows. Japanese film, shot in an almost documentary style as far as fly on the wall kind of perspective, it's very very very good.
