Original version of Star Wars Trilogy to be released on DVD

i can't believe he actually caved in. I didn't buy the box set, so this looks really attractive to me, I wouldn't mind watching the spiffy new special effects when i have the option of throwing in the original cuts when i feel like it

I believe this day is spoken of in the Bible. Wow, I'm completely surprised that this is happening.

At first glance I was stoked

But then thought 'Im not gonna drop more money on Star Wars'

Screw Lucas

I hear you, John. But think of this as a victory for the fans. We won this round ... even if we're about to give Lucas enough money to send a small country to college ... wait a second ... who won? :undecided

Dang - I'm losing another reason to hang on to my Laserdisc player? :-(

But I like my Definitive Collection ... switching platters right before the end of the movie ...

DAMN IT! I don't want to drop any more cash on that money grubber either.

Dolby 2.0 sound? What's up with that? We said we wanted the original versions, we never said you couldn't spiff them up a bit. At least have 5.1 an option.

Yes, I will find any reason to complain about Lucas and Star Wars.

Yeah...I might just give the trilogy a rent to be reminded of what it was like before the updates. Plus, there's most likely going to be another version released eventually for the HD formats.

Yeah, it's only a matter of time before the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray "special editions" arrive. Of course, Lucas will probably make us wait another decade to get the original, unaltered movies in HD.

Finally!
I didnt think he would do it because of some crazy "I am a painter even though I pay 500 other people to move the brush" notion he has. For once i am glad he is just a conniving money crazy mogul looking to pump every cent out of his slavishly devoted fan boys. I may actually buy these ones.

First of all, this was always going to happen. Are you kidding me? Lucasfilm knows how to make money. They know exactly what they're doing. And this was always in the plans. Trust me. Secondly, I am NOT paying for this. I have always been against piracy as I see it hypocritical for someone pursuing a filmmaking career to steal dvds. It just doesn't make sense. However, when you've bought the same movie 4 times, I think that's the ONE time where piracy becomes okay. I will go down swinging in the Supreme Court if I have to.

Now, having said that, this brings up a MUCH BIGGER issue. Lucas has always been steadfast in saying he would NEVER EVER EVER release the original trilogy. But guess what?? He just did. Now remember something ELSE that Lucas has said he would never ever ever do... Oh yeah: was it make episodes 7-9?

Hmmmmm...

Lucas employs a LOT of people. And three more star wars movies would employ those people for another 10 years and give his company guaranteed money. He wouldn't have to direct them (oh please god, don't direct them). I think this is a no-brainer.

Heh, he won't make 7-9 untill there is some new techonology..

Episode 7, now in 3D!!
(pause)
Get Episodes 1 - 6 in the new re-mastered 3D version!
(pause)
Get the whoel set of 1 - 9, now in a holographic 3D boxed set...
...
uh huh.

- Mikko ... hasn't seen the re-mastered originals, VHS was fine.

i know you're joking, but did you know he is submitting them to go thru the 2D to 3D conversion that James Cameron has been touting as of late?
