Tree Bees

Nice spring day and bees were buzzing in our tree in the back...never shot insects, so wanted to see how the HVX could handle the little buggers.

Shooting bees in a breeze is not the easiest thing... I can imagine what the neighbors were saying as I spastically moved my tripod around to what appeared to them to be a stationary tree. Anyway, here's about a 30 second clip for those interested in how the macro end of the HVX lens works.

Me too... Sweet sweet looking footage. I think it handled 'em pretty well. hmmm.

Thanks for sharing and love the fast shutter on the slow-mo's. Mine has pretty much been stuck on a fast shutter for a month now... I'm hooked.

I think Mike at Motionzone should send you a PM about that as some stocky fooooootage...

Thanks all...
no stings...just a lot of fly bys. :-)
shutter was on 1/1000th...wish it went faster on 24p.

Hey bob i see that your are using .mac to put up your videos...i too am using this just wondering how you compressed your footage (with what too) and how you put it up on .mac thanks alot!

I use iWeb...not the best web development software, not efficient and limited in scope, but for quick and easy...it works pretty well. Less time I spend tweeking my web page means more time I can sleep or shoot. :-)

As far as compression settings, I've used Cleaner 6, Sorensen Squeeze (4.3) and Quicktime Pro 7. I've had some buggy issues with Squeeze, Cleaner is okay, but for single file output, QTPro has been the easiest and gives pretty good results.
Settings are "Output to MPEG-4"...Video settings under that are: H.264 for Video Format, Data Rate: 2400, Image Size 960 X 540 and frame rate "current" (24). I've let it automatically set the key frames.

At this setting I get a file that is about 312Kb per second. I'm still fiddling around with what would be best trade offs between data rate and file size. Main problem with QTPro is lack of a batch feature but I suppose you could do an Automator script.

Give me your email and I can shoot you a screen grab of my settings.

1/1000th a sec isnt fast enough?

perhaps teh 1/12,000 shutter speed of my Sony handycam will appease you? :)

Bob

Love what you are doing! Everytime I start hearing people complain about the HVX I see something like this; Crew, Baseball, Working Dogs ......

Love all of it ! Very sharp, very clean and very filmlike!

This was great!
