Converting dvx footage to Avid

Can anyone give me any tips on how to convert the footage we've shot with our dvx to the avid software?

It's probably something real simple, so I apologize in advance for the needless question, lol!

SImply capture the footage with the capture tool in Avid... it does the rest :) If you shot in 24P, be sure to select a 24P project in avid.

It also depends what you shot it on. If it was just 24p, instead of 24pA, you want to go ahead and capture it as 29.976 NTSC.

AVID allows capture of 24p and 24pA over FireWire. Just select the proper pulldown cadence in the Film/24p settings.

Here's another simple question for you guys.

How do you get that 29.976 NTSC or 23.976 NTSC setting on the camera, (We're using a DVX-100B just for reference), or do you set that up right in Avid?

Sidenote:

We've opened the capture tool, and started the project at 23.976 NTSC.

We've channel selected video and audio 1 and 2.

For video and audio input we've got ohc1 and the same for audio.

We've named our project.

The resolution is DV 25p411.

Under single dual drive mode, it's set at single, with V Disc selection greyed out, as in, we can't choose it.

A disc is set to our C drive.

We have 200+ gigs free, and it says "Insufficient space on these drives" as our error message. When we click "OK", it says: "Exception: the media disc needs to be prepared for before this operation is valid".

When we go to adjust deck (which is were you select which camera you have we assume), we go under device, choose panasonic, and then at the box beside that, it gives a listing for the AG-DVX100P.

This is the only DVX option on there.

Help!!

What are we doing wrong? What should we be doing that we're not?

Which Avid system are you using?

Remember, the DVX does the pulldown for you in the camera if you are shooting in 24p. You should should 24pA if you intend to eventually output to film.

So, when you start your project select 30i since the DVX really records in 29.97.

We're currently using Xpress Pro 4.3

We've been messing around with it, but we're still unsure if we're doing it right or not.

I don't believe ADVANCED pulldown was supported until 4.5, but my memory may be failing me. 5.0 introduced output over FireWire with 2:3 pulldown without the need for a Mojo, and 5.1 introduced NORMAL pulldown capture over FireWire.

Ok, here's another question for you guys.

How would we compress this, once finished editing, into a sizeable quicktime file to upload to a site like youtube.com?

Depending on the version of avid you have, it might have shipped with Sorrenson Squeeze. You can also download Microsoft media encoder (free) and convert the file there. I'm not familiar with youtube.com's requirements.

The error message you got sounds like a problem with your storage media, not so much your capture settings. How much material are you trying to digitize? How long are your clips? The Avid will make a generous estimation of size needed, and it sounds like there's not enough space on your targeted drive.

Hi,

there's someone who can tell me if it's possible to change the frame rate in to avid. Because i'm in France, and we only have the 720P/50 format (hvx-200), not the 60P. But Avid doesn't propose me the format... So, is there a solution, can i cghange it in the project?

Please, help me!

Thanks!
