Foxi follow-focus extension cord

Hi guys,

This is an appeal to the DVXUser community ! :love4:

Here's my problem : I'm ordering a Foxi follow-focus, based on the excellent article by Evin Grant on this website. I will be reviewing it in detail the way I already reviewed Tim Ovel's indiFocus (http://perso.wanadoo.fr/cinedv/ffocus_english.htm)

I will also want to order the 15" extension cord for using the Foxi with a steadicam or for other situations when the AC can't remain close to the camera. The cord carried byt SmartHome seems good, but they charge over 50 bucks for shipping an 8.50-item to France... :furious3:

So, if there was somewhere in the US a nice DVXuser with a Paypal account who could order it for me and ship it to France, I'd be delighted ! It seems that this kind of extension cord is quite hard to find in Europe, God knows why... Of course, I'd wire the cost of the cord plus reasonable shipping to that person's Paypal account in advance.

Many thanks in advance, guys !

Radio Shack (or any comparable store) should carry a cheap 1/8" to 1/8" extension cord. I bought a 16' extension for my Zoe at Radio Shack, cost something like $10, and I had to get adapters for 3/16 to 1/8. You should be able to get just the 1/8 cable.

The FOXI needs a special 5-pin cable though...

To be honest I've never seen more than the 4 pin (A/V) cable before. I might need to take another look at Jameco and see what they have...

I'll help.

I'll help.

I just checked the UPS site to see how much it'd cost for a 1-pound package to Paris...US$54.00. DHL says US$55.00. It looks like it'd cost you even more to ship it here and then ship it to you.

A UPS letter pack looks like it'd run about $35. Standard Mail, for 4-6 week delivery, costs US$4.10

Email me with the specifics (bert at herrings dot net) if you are in no hurry and want to use the mail option.

Airmail Parcel Post (also known as "Global Priority Mail") will get it there in about a week for US$17.50...another more reasonable option.

Thanks pal ! This Airmail thingy sounds quite good. I'll be sending you an email momentarily (will be from toscanafilms.com).

?

It uses a 3.5mm mini-headphone-style connector. It plugs into the remote iris/focus jack... it's a standard cable that can be bought at Radio Shack for cheap.

Really?
I thought the Zoom/SS was 3.5mm stero, and the Iris/Focus was 2.5mm 5-pin?

I must be mistaken.

Barry, the link at the end of Evin's article points to a very special 4-conductor minijack (with 3 black plastic insulators). I say 4-conductor but it could be only 3-conductor plus ground...

I'm perplexed now...

I used the Foxi. It connects just like the VariZoom does. It's a 2.5mm or 3.5mm jack (one or the other). Look on the side of your HVX, that's what it plugs into. Just get a male->female extension cable for that socket, that's all you need.

actually the Focus is the strange four conductor video+audio style 3.5mm plug.
The zoom is a stereo 2.5 mini-mini.

Okay, I see what you're talking about now:

The VariZoom is the same way. So maybe a cheapo extension cable won't work for it. Hmmm. It worked for the zoom... but maybe not for focus. Rats.
