The perfect HD on camera monitor for the HVX200?

Those of you using the Marshall, isn't it composite video only? How does it perform so well if that's the input? Got the Lilliput setup working well enough. Like Larry said, it's good for focus. It will get me through this first feature doc we're doing soon but there's got to be a better way. Need to be able to see the HD signal. I ordered three transcoders to get the HD signal out of the camera into the monitor and only one worked well enough to use. I also am trying to solve the split feed issue so I can feed the set monitor and the camera monitor at the same time. I've got it working using BNC Ts but the signal get terminated upstream and both feeds suffer, plus the BNC contraption is messy at best. Sure wish this was a HDSDI signal. Got an AJA box just staring at me on my shelf. Would love to hear Larry's jumper settings and any insights after using for a while.

Don,

Here are my dip switch positions: 1,3 and 4 are Down, 2,5,6 and 7 are UP.

I haven't tried to split the signal, so I don't have any suggestions there. The Marshall does have a component input with loop through. So, that would fix the on camera/field monitor issue.

Thank you Larry, my dips are the same but took a while to get them there. I didn't realize the Marshall was componet as I'm obviously not looking at the right one.

Thanks again for the inspiration to do this.

Thanks, Don, but it was all the other guys in this thread that found the parts. I just happened to be the first one to get the transcoder in the mail.

What about the 7.5" HD monitor that Zacuto includes with the 'Docu' and up packages...?

Anyone know what brand, model, specs that screen is?

Thanks

they list a detailed spec on their site.
It's a Marshall 7"

Hmm I keep getting an overrange error message. I have my dips set like Larry's but still no image from the HVX to the lilli.

I had similar problems. Try turning dip 5 off. I ordered 4 transcoders figuring some woulodn't work properly. My first one like Larrys took hours to get to work properly then failed after three days. The second worked perfectly out of the box and still is. I still cannot get it to make an image on any setting other than 1080i out of the camera. Also, try changing the settings and then re-booting the camera and the transcoder. I see you're in PA or I'd loan you one of my good ones to try.

Anyone own a marshal and can compare this other solution (use output of marshal to send to other monitor).

I'll be going to buy a monitor soon... marshal is currently the options I am looking for.

It seems to me that this would be the proper cable, having male ends, and it is a little cheaper $39.00 http://www.dvdcity.com/video/sw-media-vga-rca.html

Can anyone confirm if the above cable is the correct one

Ideally it would have female ends. The component cable on the HVX has male ends (remember, you use the special component cable, there are not female RCA-style ports to plug into on the camera).

Did anyone try this cable solution?

Hey Barry,
Do you get a better picture on the Marshal if you shoot in 720p? Does that eliminate downrezz issues?

jim

No, because the Marshall isn't a full 720p panel, so it'll downrez no matter what. The moire issue we observed was from shooting 720 stuff.

It's a great little monitor for the price. But there's a reason the Panasonic version is $5,000 and this one's $1300, that's all I'm saying.

I've tried every dip-switch and resolution output combo with the HVX and the lik-sang VGA converter. My CRT monitors display a great, beautiful image. My LCD monitors display images with heavy pink/magenta overtones... looks awful.

Any ideas on how to get the LCDs to work? I tried several, all with the exact same results! I was hoping not to have to haul a heavy CRT around on location.

Hi everyone. This is my first post, so be gentle! :)

I've been messing around with the Xenarc 700YV for a few weeks now. I originally tried the Lik-Sang box, and it sucked. I experienced the pink/low contrast phenomenon listed elsewhere, on every monitor I tried it with, not just the Xenarc.

Aside from some cabling issues that I am still working on, I think I now have a workable setup, for focus and color, though I still need to test that. The scaler that I did pick up, Audio Authority 1365, will accept anything the HVX puts out, including 1080, and it looks great. I used part of the Xenarc's car mount to attach the Audio Authority box to the back of the monitor, which makes it a really nice, compact package. Voided the warranty on the scaler (drilling a hole in the case will do that) but very handy.

You can see pictures of the rig at: http://web.mac.com/dcramton1/iWeb/Site/HVX%20Monitor%20Setup.html

Parts list with links:
Xenarc YV700, $349 direct from Xenarc http://www.xenarc.com/product/700y.html
Audio Authority Model 1365 Scaler, $249 direct from AA https://www.audioauthority.com/indexh.php
Noga DG 1105, $105.60, NAB show special from Band Pro.
20 Pin MDR (DFP) Connector from Digikey, guts $6.70, 3M Part# 10120-3000PE, shell $7.20, 3m Part# 10320-52F0-008 http://www.digikey.com
VGA solder cup connector & cable from local electronics store

Hope some of you find that useful. The setup looks great, and has many picture adjustments between the monitor and the scaler. I'm working on the cable clutter issue right now.

So, after al this is there a viable alternative to the Marshal or not? Didn't someone have both monitors so he can compare?
