I am Legend news

This wonderful novel could not be ruined anymore than by having Will 'Awww Helll Nooo!' Smith in the title role.

This is such disapointing news. Let me guess:

Rated PG-13 and release in May.

What a bummer.

if its played out more serious this could be cool.

i like that it plays out in NYC. visually way cooler than LA...and there is way more stuff to play off of.

Amazing how they blow such a simple screen story time after time. I thought the Price version was dull but pretty close to the book compared with Omega Man-(though I prefer Heston as Neville). But the Price version also blew the irony of the ending. Has to have him in the jail cell with the vampires outside. Otherwise they might as well call it Bob Villa vs the Vampires.

Nice post kgg.

Hey Rich

Is it possible for them to do it seriously ? (With Will Smith?)

I just cant take him seriously and it sounds like they wont be taking LEGEND seriously.

I don't know, but how else could he score these jobs? He has done better movies than his talent should allow.....I figured it's gotta be due to a SUPER agent or something like that...

ACCCK! I read the book as a kid -- loved Omega Man, it's one of the holy trinity of heston scifi cheeze-spread (with Planet of the Apes and Soylent Green).

Funny, the thing I recall most from the book? He "took a day and soundproofed the house" so he couldn't hear the vampires... man, I want to learn the one-day soundproofing technique! (OK, maybe it was a weekned, but still...)

Will Smith... sheesh.

He's the Bob Villa of the post-apocalypse. and he had a well-stocked fridge. There was a Saturday Night Live sketch with John Laroquette playing Bob Villa but he was rennovating haunted houses. I remember he advised some people to use a sound proofing material to make the profanity spouted by a hellmouth sound more conversational.

Planet of the Apes is too philosophical to be cheese. King Kong Escapes--now that's cheese!

On Hudson's recomendation i just finished reading I am Legend.

I for one don't like vampire stories but the way Matheson tackled this story is incredible. Original and totally convincing.

My only regret now is that there is no way the film will be a faithful adaptation of the story. I can't picture a studio that would sign off on a script that sticks to this story, especially the ending.

Nor do i think Will Smith is a good casting now that i feel i understand the character of Robert Neville.

At one time Harrison Ford would have been a great choice--and he was a carpenter in real life! I could totally see him making a stake with some woodworking tools, looking internally tortured, philosophical all at onceetc.
