Failure, a film documenting filmmaking failure

This guy sounds like the biggest idiot. He goes to film school and still he can't do anything. I'm sure the doc is funny and I want to see it but I don't think this guy will have much of a future after this thing. Its one thing to make a movie or a doc and then with that make more movies or docs that are better and better. But that doesn't seem like the case here.

Apple hardware and software were critical to his being able to make and promote the film, Suchorsky says. “Not only did I use Final Cut, but I also did the website, postcard, and poster on my G5. For that I used Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Dreamweaver. In addition, Rich Adams used Logic Pro to score the film.”
He muses on the impact these tools have had on him: “Apple has allowed me to make my dreams come true. I’ve always wanted to make films, and I’m doing it. The film I ended up with wasn’t the film that I set out to make, but it turned out to be pretty good anyway. If it wasn’t for a Power Mac and Final Cut Pro, people like me could not make their ‘Failures’ a success.”
Man! I should go out and buy an Apple. Because even if I have no skills, I can make an award winning flick!

I'm not sure, but thinking you can learn how to make a feature film only by attending some classes sound pretty idiotic to me. Maybe that's what makes him an idiot, instead of his inability to make it work.

Anyway, that idiot has a good documentary collecting some awards, a pretty cool G5 setup, while I've got nothing... YET.

So he gets my respect. (at least until I see the film...)

A good way to learn how to make a feature film is to go out and make a film, so i don't understand why this guy is an idiot in people's mind. Film school rarely prepares you for the real-world situations of making a feature. Only hammering away on movies does and if you want to be a writer, director, etc. you can still only learn so much by working on other people's movies....you have to get out and make movies and fail.

There are plenty of people out there than can use a camera, know how to light, etc. but still can't cobble together a great movie.

I think the guy is smart for finding something to do with his failed feature film. Most people wouldn't have that kind of fortitude.

So, he gets my respect too.

Why beat up on this guy? For what it's worth, he has turned failure into success, but more to the point he has a film out there that's getting reviews. We try to knock him down...For what? He didn't do it the way we prescribed? Hat's off to the guy...He DID something.........

I agree. Anyone who has made a feature has seen things go wrong time and time again. This guy was clever enough to turn the failure into something presentable. And he's working on a new gig.

I think he's an idiot because he went to school and didn't take anything away from that. But of course I'm on that side of thought that people don't need to go to film school to make films. I'm not trying to play down what a big step that guy had to make to even attempt to make his movie. But he's still and idiot that got lucky. It will be interesting to see how his other project goes. Plus making a narrative film and a doc are two different beasts all together. I'm sure you can draw a bunch of similarities between the two but they are still very different.
