Xpress Pro won't capture Vid and Aud together

In avid xpress pro capture tool I can capture video or audio, but when I try to capture both at the same time I get "Exception - an unidentifiable error has occurred during capture". I have tried to capture video to one drive and audio to another and both to the same drive, no luck. Help?

Does that error message have a button that says "More info" or something like that? If so, click it and post what it says.

Thanks.

When you click the "more" button, it says "Exception: DIOProducer - digitial I/O device malfunction, DIOerr:PMDIOformat::setaudioformat - invalid sample size - client value: 16, acceptable value: 12

Check the settings in your audio project. The audio coming in on the tape is 12-bit, but Avid is trying to capture 16-bit. Change that to 12 bit on the audio project, then you'll be able to capture.

If you need 16 bit audio, then after the capture, change that setting back and then do a sample rate conversion.

i have the same problem, and i tried changing the video project settings and i only had 16 and 24 bit, on top of that my capture tool wont work now :crybaby: whats a girl to do!

Wow! I'm surprised richallen hasn't posted back because I completely mistyped what I was thinking. You're right, you can only choose 16 or 24 bit in Avid. What I meant to say was to change the Sample Rate to 32 kHz and recapture. That should do the trick. Then you can resample to 48 kHz if you need to.

Regarding your problem with the capture tool, can you give me some more info about that? What do you mean "won't work now?"

:love4: oh wow thanks! it now captures! only one problem tho, when i play back the captured film or even turn it into a sequence the composer does not play the video, just sound and a frame from the clip, but when i stop it, its at the relevant frame. how do i set it to have a moving picture, as this is really relevant to editing my clips! thanks again! :love4:

Try closing an reopening Avid. Also make sure that you don't have Windows Media Player, Quicktime Player, things like that open. If none of those suggestions fix it let me know what kind of video card you have and what version of the drivers you're on.

right im not quite sure if i have the right info but here goes:
device: Inno3D GeForce 6800 series GPU
Driver: Nv4-disp.dll
Directx 9.0c
Motherboard: ASUS A8N-E DUAL DDR, S-ATA,x16 slot,3 PCI.

tee hee i made it work, i figured as usually you would have two screens, and i know from experience that if you put the video window on one screen it would never play(dono why). so i looked at the back of my pc and i have two monitor slots, so i swapped and reopened the program booom! video plays! lol thanks for your help anyway :)
