I cry for my DVX

I was filming a bboy(breakdancing) event recently, when a big tall bboy that didn't know what he was doing comes into the circle, tries to do something, fails and falls on my precious dvx, I even had it protected between my legs but his foot perfectly hit my .7 CO lens adapter and it comes flying off along with the dvx front mount and the focus ring.

I'm hoping this can get repaired. I only had the cam for a few months now and I haven't had the skill to bring out its true potential yet. I'm so bummed out right now. I guess hero fest and a bunch of projects(including paid gigs) I was going to do in the next few weeks might not happen anymore unless i can get this fixed asap.

Luckily none of my optics were damaged. only think that i really see that broke are these 3 lil prongs that seem to hold in the dvx front and focus ring in. You can see it in the pictures.

Here are some pictures of the damage. :crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:

Anyone know if this can be fixed and if it can how much it may cost? I was thinking of bringing it in to abel cinema. I wonder if they do dvx repairs there.

Contact Spec-comm in Maryland. I sent my cam there to get repaired. It was an electronic issue though. They had great service and expedient help.

thanks a bunch for the info guys..wow that thread is almost exactly how my cam looked like after. I guess I'll order that piece and give sean or barry s a pm. Oh man I'm in high spirits now! Thanks again!

Heh I see someone already pointed you in the right direction.. my course of action may have followed this path:

1/ slap the bboy upside the head

2/ order the part and contact Barry S

DvX to save the day!! it acted as protection of certain parts of your body.

But consider yourself lucky, imagine if it had been one of those xl2's with the $3000 lense. Ouch!!

doh! the part is backordered

I must've gotten the last one!

Really, so long as the rest of your camera is okay, you're in luck. I suppose the DVX was designed in this manner to cushion against drops.

The new focus assembly simply attaches with those (four?) little screws. It's a 15-minute job, tops. I took my DVX to Guatemala for a week shortly afterwards-- it's as good as new. :)

Gives one a new appreciation for the "cage" concept of the RED camera. . .

haha yea thanks everyone....and praise the DVX gods for protecting my optics! good thing the only stuff that broke was plastic :P. Speaking of red, wish I could have made it to nab. I was so ready to go :( .

Note to self ... be wary of filming bboy events. Looks like your camera's gonna be ok though. Good to know.

Just curious, what did the tall clumsy kid say after he stomped your rig?

Yup. Classic DVX face plant with destruction of focus assembly. Chances are you can be up and running as soon as you get the replacement focus assembly unless the damage goes deeper into the lens. Just PM Sean or me when you get the part, amigo.

he was very apologetic...It's hard to really blame anyone in that situation because falls and what not always happen in an event and there always bboys that are new to the scene that mess up.

On another note though, I actually used to practice with that same bboy years ago, I have long retired from practicing but he hasn't and I see no improvement on his skills. So, if he actually got any better he probably wouldn't of hit my cam. weak.

When he did kick it tho, I swear the world was in slow motion, and everyone comin up to me and to see the damage seemed like they didn't exist...I couldn't even speak. I was in a state of shock. well, we'll see if it will be ok once i replace the focus assembly. It seems more likely that it will be ok.

thanks again all. I appreciate I can vent my camera grief on this forum and get some solutions. whippeeeee
