Also their is a DP that shot a Brad Pitt commercial of him walking to the store at night with a Genesis or Viper and it was washed out until they color corrected it. Anybody know the website? This cameras images do look alot like that.

That's the idea and it is successful for this. I was at the AMD booth for a lot of today showing footage from the SI1920. All this footage is pre-color correction and it has a flat look. Some visitors didn't get that flat is good, fortunately most most realized it means a high dynamic range, enable much greater flexibility in post. So in this way it is very like Viper Filmstream, except the workflow is much easier with CineForm RAW.

I think it is great to show uncorected footage to show dynamic range but a the same time, if I were you, I would show the same footage corrected to the hilt. My experience is that even the most creative people don't see it if you don't show it to them. It is one thing to say "this flat looking raw file is going to look great after you tweak it to your liking " and quite another to show the flat file and then the same file with an awesome cc.

I totally agree. I'm hoping someone puts the time in to color correct some of the footage during the show, as all the footage was shoot over the weekend giving too little for polished results.

The only one thing that I dislike is Adobe Premiere 2.0, that software I know it's considered to be not *very* professional...as Avid or Final Cut pro, somebody uses Premiere? How good color correction works in Premiere?

Yes the camera is under $20k for the complete workflow, including the necessary post production tools, and a disk system capable of recording 4+ hours of 1080p24. I don't know if under $20k is 19,995 or less. SI will be able to tell you.

Pricing,
We are not trying for any secrets here. Sure $19995 sounds good. Since they are not ready for production, we didn't feel the need to be more specific. The feature list keeps increasing as people give us more feedback. As David says, keep in mind that this is the price for a full workflow - camera, recording and editing with export.

Steve

Here is a idea? Why not let the same guy (Claudio Miranda- cinematographer) that shot the viper heineken commercial http://www.claudiomiranda.com/heineken.html shoot something on your cam. Im sure he would do it just so he could be first to use it on a pro shoot. If a Viper user says it's top shelf then it's top shelf. I dont think that the problem will be the camera, I think it will be the marketing of the camera
1. Name - SI-1920HDVR. can we get something a little cooler. Look how much buzz is flying around about the RED cam. People putting money down already and haven't seen a screen grab. Cool azz name list. Varicam,Red,Genesis,f900,z1u,hd100,dvX,hvX,XL2,SI-1920HDVR,Walkman, Ipod (got carried away:Drogar-Evil(DBG):). Of course you dont have to change the project name just give us something cool to call it. Maybe I'm just young.

2. Price - well this aint no sony fx1. 20K You will only be able to sell bunches of them if the pros not prosumers buy into it. I work at a college they spend money like madmen. every other department has a camera . Basically I can't afford this cam but my job can. get it into the hands of the pros before these other cams come out. Because the next 2 years is HD upgrade time. which means spent a ton of money and its okay time.

3. Cross Platform - talking about your cam i told a guy it was on pc but would soon be cross platform. he said man so its pc only. He edits in adobe premiere. People are crazy. Anyway I know its comming to the mac so cool. Final Cut 4life:kali:

4. footage - Yo the footage is nice but please color correct it please. I wouldn't let my mama see my footage until it's color corrected. Do you want me to run it thru magic bullet?:badputer:

5. For real - Dear silicon imaging you have made the camera that people have been dreaming about. super high quality, super low price, and super low editing requirements. Damn im proud of you. if your cam acheives 80% of it's goals its the shizzle. Peace

Nik,
The name will be up for discussion.
On price, we are finding out we will have to go rental - we orginally thought it was cheap enough to buy but rental gives people a chance to try it. I was wondering if a small group of Indies would consider buying two cameras to share around. A possible way to stretch the resources.
Cineform has said they will have final cut supported by our release date in September. Pricing to be announced but they are reasonable people.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. We survived NAB rather nicely. The camera did well at the CML party and left for a feature film in South Africa. Look for clips to be released.

Steve

thanks for replying Steve. I wasnt saying I thought the price was to high at all. I ran into a news shooter here in columbus, ohio. He was shooting with a SD Panasonic DVCPRO50 cam. Im sure it cost at least 20k when they bought it. they had a tripod head so big I thought it was a film shoot. Anyway I made small talk and he said yeah we are going all digital real soon with the new panasonic cams. So you definetely have a market. 4-hours of continuous shooting is a big plus. Im just saying just don't let your friends, buddies, and web pals see the camera, let the SUPER pros use the cam. If you lend them the cam for a 3 day shoot. The publicity from that would be priceless. Now your in magazines, websites, blogs saying hey the pros use it.
The college I work at also has a tv studio how should I pitch your product to them? Send me a personal message.

Nik,
There will be some shots from Dave Faires that we did right before NAB including night shots and indoor stuff handheld, tripod and steadicam. The first unit is now in South Africa doing a feature film. Clips will be posted on our web site as soon as they are available. As soon as we have more cameras we will be getting them in the hands of people who will be highly visible. I agree with you - good results are what will sell the camera.

For now we are going to leave the ENG and live broadcast markets alone since the workflow does not lend istself to good quality live feeds. It is heavily post oriented.

Production quantities won't be available until September.

Dig it. I completely understand.

I got it the hands down name of this cam that you can't disagree with
S.I. Nordhauser aka the S.I.N cam. Man thats sweet:)
"Yeah I just shot this movie with the new SIN cam", said bigwig.
alright i'll leave you alone till september. peace

Just in case anyone hasnt seen the camera:

20K? If Red lives up to what it claims, this camera would be waaay over priced. I'd think more along the lines of 12K. Just my opinion though.

Mr. Blonde,
We will be shipping this camera in production quantities in September. It works now. I agree that if Red produces the camera they have speced on time and for the price they have announced, the industry will be shaken. For now, I think that the SI-1920HDVR represents a new level of price/performance when compared to other existing cameras.
Regards,
Steve
