My first music video

This was the quickest production i've ever worked on. From concept to finished product was less than 12hrs as it needed to be finished asap to be entered in a local film contest. No lighting, no crew, no shot list, just run and gun. I'm actually supprised how well i think it turned out for the time and planning. Any feedback is appreciated!

Alright i'm aware that this is not a perfect production by any means but is it so bad that i only will get one comment? Anything is appreciated, i'm always up for constructive criticism.

I got a 404 page not found.

hrm ifilm is having some serious issues today. anyone recommend a good site to host stuff? the quailty was almost unacceptable from the ifilms site anyways.

I have no idea why it doesn't work, for some it does for others not. This is the first thing i've hosted on Ifilm.com and i'm not impressed. Here are some snapshots for those that can't get it to work.

Actually the video wasn't pretty bad, I think it needs to be color corrected to give it a more dark look as the song is dark and I think once that's done it'll be pretty hot.

Who passed a sister or someone?

I thought the video was rather boring..

Dunno if it was the concept behind it.. but the talent is definately really un-interesting to watch... she is really unanimated.. very expressionless..

I felt that all the footage of her playing on the piano was painfully boring to watch.. this is where I think it could have benefited from some camera movement, like the camera is always in motion around the her and the piano, create a little more kinetic energy for the video to carry it forward.

but that is just my two cents. Not a horrible video, but I didn't find it particularly interesting... I am thinking that is mainly cause of the girl though...

just remember though, opinions are like assholes... everyone has one...

I agree, this is the short amount of time to do that caused theses boring static shots. I setup two static shots on a tripod one from in front and one from behind in the church and had her play all the way through, we were only allowed like 45min in the church and i jus didn't get enough handheld time. At the cemetery we again only had about 45min and i was all alone tryin to walk backwards for handheld shots and stuff. I think i could have made a much better video with some more plannin, but i'm still interested in ppls opinions of what i did get!

"Boring"

It's ok for your first....try color correcting it, throw some style in with it. You want to keep the attention of your viewers, so spice it up some. I know it's a slow song, but you'll figure something out. This is what made me and other film makers/ editors/etc.., better.....is to be criticized!

Good luck!

hey, can only learn from your experience with this video.

Definitely not amazing, but you will know what to do next time to make it better. Just try and find out where the faults are with the video and improve on those.

Ok you guys i get that you think its boring, what about other things though. Shot composition, the story idea, is it just bad cuts? little more in depth than. "boring, recut" would be nice. I guess i had a feeling for this to be dark and Solemn
. Not quick perky cuts, so far 3 people have cried from watching it, i figured that was somewhat of a compliment. I agree it may be a little slow, i think some of the static shots especially like playing the piano get boring but i felt it moved along decently enough for the song it is. listen to the words, focus on the feeling, etc etc. I've seen music vids there was one shot where nothing happened but a girl got up from bed and got dressed the end. Don't get me wrong, i'm not tryin to argue and say this is great stuff and u don't know what ur talking about, thats not the case at all. i love the advice, anything to make my work better, just a little more indepth would be nice, how exactly do you find it boring, shots are boring, edits are boring, story is boring, and is that all thats wrong with it (ha) that its boring?

see if you find my other work in progress any less boring.

Ok try to add in memories of what she is seeing, so that we can see the person and whatever happened. Not just her walking around in a graveyard. That leaves your viewers with no clue what's going on. When you shoot your shots have to tell the story as well as the song.

my thoughts

my thoughts

she is fantastic.
the brick wall shot , bad. needed dimmer lighting and fan on her hair to give some movement imo
video needed more close ups to show her facial expressions . pretty girl , show her off imo.
pretty song, i like the way you told the story with pictures.

Definitely flashbacks to her friend would help hook the emotions at the beginning. Dolly shots for the piano playing or crane movements....any movement would have been better. I little tighter edits of her on the piano so we feel like we are there instead of feeling like a third party observer. A secret to maintaining interest in a music video is keep things moving. Motion keeps interest (Well it is an important step). That is why dolly shots, zooms, crane lifts, etc, would help the video. I liked it thought. The colors worked well. Perhaps the blacks could be crushed slightly to give it a darker feel? Great job though! Especially in the time frame you had!

Yes, flashbacks, dolly shots, more closeups, etc. etc. Are all things i WANTED to do but we just didn't have the time to do it. I had a friend with a dolly i was trying to bring into help but he had time conflicts, not that it really would have mattered because we were just not given enough time in the church to get any more than what we have anyways. I have used magic bullet now to do some CC and give it a slightly more dark feel. I appreciate the comments!
