Where the debuted the all new ARRI 416.....OH MY GOD....This is an AMAZING Super 16 camera, and VERY worth succesor to the SRIII. The use of the viewing system from the 235 is reason enough to use this camera...this thing flat out dropped my jaw.

On top of that, they had a new ARRI scanner, and for you guys ARRILaser (think film outs.)

And a new HMI 18/12 head.... THE most powerful HMI out there...this thing was awesome in sheer output, the new quiet ballast. You could an entire street scene with just one. wow.

And even cooler and better news for my HVX or other DV brethern...Arri had two other new lights....one is 250W light with a built in ballast...about the size of a 1k...AND the power output of a 1k!!!! Tungsten balanced with available daylight globes.

Also the new ARRI cermaic lights...with an optional black reflector (ture single source shadows...) Again, everything built into the head...250W...output of a 2k ziplight!!!

Think of this...you can run these lights on car inverters or run 4 lights on one household circuit plug without blowing it...this is GREAT news for low budget/ practical location shooting.

All of this will be at NAB...check it out.

Everything is pretty much NEW....no real pricing as of yet. And there aren't too many units around. I know there is one journalist/DP who used them on some show in Canyon Country and wants to sing their praises to the masses at NAB...at least at the ASC get together.

I'll have to refer to the brochures and stuff I got for the exact names of the lights.

The first ceramics were announced a couple of years ago, IIRC. Pricing was comparable to new HMIs. They basically appeared to be tungsten-balanced HMIs, if such a thing were possible.

In other words, at the time they were announced, they were too rich for most DVXUsers' blood (somewhere around $3600 for a 250w fixture). B&H is selling the ceramic 250w for $2150 - $2535.

Yes, Arri has had ceramic lights out. These are new...how they differ I am not sure.
But the globes are touted to get about 4000 hours of life. And you can put your hand on teh back with no glove...and not get burned.

Yes, both the ceramics and the other 250W are not cheap, and would be more of a rental item in my mind.

The lights are called the ARRI X Ceramic 250 and the ARRI Studio Ceramic 250.

The X is square shaped, and the studio looks exaclty like a 1k fresnel.

we've got a bunch of lights by a chinese company called film gear. someone told me they're made at the same factor that makes arri lights. anyone know if that's true?

Don't know. I know a lot of the ARRI lights are manufactured in Germany, but who knows where else they have space rented for cheaper production.

What?

Arnold & Richter Cine Technik Betriebs GmbH & Co hiring a Chinese company for manufacturing?

Are we talking about the same Arri that has always been at the top in pricing due to the precise manufacturing heritage?

Sounds doubtful.

Although they did partner with an Italian company to produce grip gear for a while...

i wouldn't hold it against arri if it's true. branded stuff from china is fine, it's just that off brand crap. jesus is it awful.
