My DVX vs. XL2 issue

I just think that although the XL2 has a cleaner image, the DVX is 1000 dollars cheaper. And even if sme might consider the XL2 slightly better, (although that is on for debate), it's not 1000 dollars better. The DVX is the better deal... IMHO...

i think its about whether do u prefer a shoulder mount or a handheld.
honestly changeable lense feature, u dont really use.
but as a videographer, u will prefer the LCD viewfinder or even the viewfinder
of the dvx, coz its so much clear and better than xl2.
next to that, is the weight.
given a choice, to get a shoulder mount, i will get a 2/3 inches.
or something is more balance in weight, if you are train in broadcast,
you will realised that most betacam, when the bat weight is on the camera
it help to balance the camera, while xl2 only add weight to the front and
not to the back. you need to train up for this camera. i cant imagine,
staying on this camera for more than 5-10mins.

If you really need a shoulder mount, i think the jvc is a better choice for you .

1) It looks sexier,

You must be impotent to need a sexy camera

Nope, I just know I'm no Brad Pitt ;)

Seriously though, people to take the look of a camera into consideration if they're not experienced in what certain cameras can actually do. A sleek Xl2, JVC etc seems more "pro" than a handycam DVX to most people.

That is why it's great when people actually do a bit of research before buying. :)

If 16x9 really isn´t an issue for you, go with the DVX...
only thing I want to ad: if your NOT looking for a filmlook, but have to deliver clean video for broadcast, the XL2 performs better IMO.
Also when doing ENG stuff (run´n gun) I´ll rather have the "hated" 20x of the canon than be holding and shaking the DVX.
The XL´s shoulder mount may not be the best, but it is one and souldermounted footage simply looks/moves/shakes differently than handheld stuff.
If you´ll use a tripod all the time you may not consider this.

ACtually it hink the 16:9 standard 60i from an XL2 is among the best ive ever seen from a Sub 10k Video camera. I actually believe it beats the DVX when your eshooting 60i 16:9. The Squeezemode, 16:9 60i ( for slomo, or regular use) from a DVX is kinda crappy. The uprezzing gets all freaked out by the interlacing. In 24p i think squeeze is adequate, but its terrible in interlace.

it smells like cabbage.... and has an iris lever....... not an iris wheel..... THat just freaks me out.

Buy a "spiderbrace" and weight it and you have a shoulder mounted DVX.

I would prefer the Cavision shouldermount, though pricey...
The Spiderbrace looks to shabby to use it in a b2c enviroment, if your doing sth indy it probably is a good deal though...

If you´re used to ENG cameras, the XL2 still comes closest in handling.
