HVX and Avid xpressHD workflow

Running Avid Xpress Pro 5.2.4 on an approved laptop. No problems whatsoever importing MXF files. I've tried it straight from the P2 card, which you can mount from Avid and Avid will recognize as another drive, and by copying the data from the P2 to the appropriate MXF folder as described above. Play's back great as well.

Need to see how the workflow will hold up over many cards and folders though. Copying the files is easy enough, but I too would like to know more about naming the folders from 1 on up. I created the directories manually and named them appropriately for example - is there a way for Avid to do this automatically, and therefore, create the folders, right after the card is mounted in the application?

okay so i tried doing what a lot of you have suggested here and that is dropping the xmf files into the media bin.

Okay well Problem one.

In the Avid_MediaFiles folder there is no folder called MXF. So i crreated that and a folder called 1.

After dragging the contents folder, into that i went into the media tools area and tried doing what was suggested but there was "nothing" to import.

So for some reason it's not working. What am i doing wrong?

It sounds like you can't just take the whole "contents" folder that is created by the HVX and drag it into the AvidMediaFiles/MXF/1 folder.

I don't think anyone's really spelled itout but it sounds like you need to drag the video (from the video folder and the audio from the audio folder into this folder called 1.

It also sounds like you can somewhat keep track of things by creating another folder (2, 3, 4 ect) for each P2 transfer and still be able to use media tool to import from each folder.

I could be wrong.

amillionfast: are you sure you have an AvidMediaFiles/MXF folder, or are you looking in the OMFI folder?

carlone: you are correct

The OMFIMediaFiles folder is for OMF files that Avid's typically create.
The AVIDMediaFiles folder is for MXF files.

Yep

If you set Express Pro to capture MXF files and you capture something it will automatically create this folder with all the correct spellings. Then your good to go.
