FCP no external video via firewire

I have the BT-LH1700w , I connected it via the component cables and when I`m
in camera mode it works fine.
When I`m in FCP playing back a 720p file I don`t get an image on my monitor.
I checked all my settings : external video = all frames
video playback = dvcpro 1280/960

Fcp finds the HVX but all I get on my screen is : no signal / blue screen
also on the lcd from the HVX .

What am I doing wrong ?

You're not doing anything wrong, except expecting firewire pass-thru on the HVX. The Hvx will stream dvcpro HD to the computer via firewire, but it cannot act as a passthough like DV devices do, unless you are working in DV footage, and the HVX is attached in SD mode.

Well, you might be doing something wrong if you've got no image on the HVX LCD. If you have it properly configured you will see the firewire signal output from the FCP timeline and displayed on the HVX LCD.

Make sure you go into camera mode and go to the REC FORMAT menu setting and set it to 720/24p mode (not 24pN). Then go back to MCR mode, and turn off the thumbnails. Then you should see the FCP timeline frame.

However, doccutter is correct -- it will not go through to the monitor, just to the HVX's LCD.

thanks for the explanation guys !
what`s a good affordable solution ?
get a decklink HD plus card with hd-sdi.
that will work great..you can do SD and HD and use
a SDI monitor and any SDI deck. Can't beat it for 650$
