The Ore - shot on HVX

Curugon:

Tres cool trailer, although I am disappointed that this is a short, looks like it needs to be a feature ;-)

Good work, looks amazingly well done.

Cheers,

Dan

That would be my only thing... Leaves ya wanting more... Which in actuality is the best thing possible!

Looks really awesome. Man, if this doesn't inspire people to shoot a project on the HVX, I'm not sure what will. And you shot this with the Britek's? Brother, I can't wait to see the final results.

Did you have a lot of choreography and fight scenes? One of my lists of projects is a kungfu short... Hope it looks as good as this...

You definitely know how to cut a trailer! Needless to say, your footage/grading looks great.

P.S. I have a crush on your lead.

Looks great. I love how versitile this camera is an all the looks one can achieve that differ wildly but still look gorgeous (and, save for the resolution, just like film).

We're doing our own CGI work, and learning quite a bit in the process - especially with matchmoving.

The firewire hooks the camera up to the computer for offloading footage - our iBook doesn't have a card slot. One of those sweet MacBookPros would have been great to have... maybe next time.

Budget was about three grand, all total. End result will (I'm guessing) be 20 minutes unless we find a lot of fat to trim.

There's one big fight scene, a couple shots of which are in the teaser. Our stunt coordinator Vincent Fatato was invaluable to the process - the film wouldn't have been possible without him.

3g budget....what arent you factoring in??? IE geared owned, etc...I just shot a short for 3g and we couldnt afford a doorway dolly after camera, lighting/grip, & locations. It was just a talking heads piece...but hell at least a dolly would have been a nice option for some production value.

Well I'm sure he is factoring everything spent specifically on"the ore" project. Camera and lighting equipment, unless rented, are capital expenses that could be used on multiple projects. Whether they are shorts, features, docs, commercials, whatever. =)

Yeah, I think his budget is referring to cast, crew, food-- etc. Not actual camera and equiment. That's why it's always good to be nice and make friends with everyone-- you never know who might be willing to lend you a camera to persue your passion.

Well, yes I understand all this. I'm just curious if he paid his crew, had hook ups on lighting...what was his lighting package, what were the other rentals, did he have catering.

There were either a lot of favors pulled or gear already owned to make that on a budget of 3g with those costumes, make up, etc. Thats why I am curious. I would like to see how it was budgeted. Maybe pick up on something.

Yes the camera, lighting package (two 250w and one 2K) and most grip equipment was already owned - and no one got payed except for the makeup artist. The budget covered locations, food, gas, expendables, props and costumes, and a new firewire drive.

Props & costumes were a mix between rentals and thrift-store finds. Actually the Army Navy stores proved the best source for interesting costume details.

Thanks for sharing , I really enjoy your work, and this is no excaption, well exicuted. I can't wait to see the final.

BTW- I love the BTS Shots, do you have any more that show the lighting setups, or staging, camera setups or the like. (I always like seeing the BTS of the lights and then looking for the actual footage of that scene- help to get more ideas on lighting.)

Man...

I just had to put this up.

I hope you don't get offended by me doing that... but that is one DOPE FREAKING set.

The Exploration page ROCKS.

We had someone shooting BTS video on almost every day, so there's probably enough material for a lighting featurette. We're still deciding how much stuff to put on the DVD - if enough people are interested I suppose we could go to town.

By the by, we just uploaded an iPod version of the teaser on the website.

Glad you're thinking about a featurette . . . because we want to know everything!

How long did it take for principal photography?

Looks really good, can't wait for the DVD,

And thanks for the inspiration!
