1080p 2/3" PL & C mount Lenses - NAB just got NAB-ier

I couldn't find an "other camera" forum to post this correctly. So here goes....

These people make the best codec I've ever seen. Variable frame rates up to 72fps in 720p mode. Plus native PL and C Mounts. Hard Drive based recording. Sample images, no pic of camera. No info on running time and storage rates

rumored MSRP under $20K.

Sounds intersting, but cumbersom. And a PL mount on a 2/3" camera is a little pointless. You lose all your wide lenses. A B4 mount would have been better.
I'll check it out though.

Theoretically, if you mount a S16 Canon 8-64 PL on the SI-1920HDVR, you would have a 6.3 - 50mm 2/3" lens. That's pretty wide; and arguably way more MTF than that senor could resolve.

That's a flip, super-16 used for HD instead of the other way around. I would perfer a good Fujinon Cinema series 2/3" 13x myself.

Guys this is amazing! Have you seen the footage? It's beautiful! It will be available a Q3 of this year, it means september, right?
Maybe instead of purchase an Hvx200 I must buy this camera, the only that is near to Red camera, and the only available very soon!
What do you think guys?
I have not well undertand the camera's color space, is 4:2:2 or 4:4:4?
I'm very surprised...very surprised...and it seems strange that this thread it's not already turned into a 30 page thread!
Considering what's happened with Red!

i like the spec's , like the images , like the price !! PL mounts ( 16 & 35m lens) ,
a working camera at NAB to boot !!! available Q3 2006
very tempting !! and my $CD is up this saturday !!!! i don't think i'll be rolling it over for another 7 months .... i think NAB will have some more surprises ..

It's apparent reliance on the CineForm codec & Windows XP would be a huge deal breaker for me. Barring some strange unforseen circumstance, there will never be another Windows box in our facility.

i love competition. it's the drive behind innovation. lets see RED beat that. so far RED is a concept camera, until they give us a release date with FULL specs.

i'll stick with my HVX. mayb in a year or less will add one of these.

Not trying to be a douchebag or anything, but do you guys seriously think those demo clips look good?

I'd never judge the overall image quality of a pre-release product, especially one that I haven't had a chance to shoot with, but since they posted it on their site... I'm really not impressed. Granted the clips have been dumped down to 720 and recompressed, but they're not remotely flattering.

RED is no more a concept camera than this Silicon Imaging camera is. Neither of them are shipping products and are both essentially "concepts".

i agree. both are concepts. HVX renders images as good or even better than what i see on their site. BUT I'm really feeling that HDD removable cartridge on board the camera.

Open PC architecture my ass... based on the information provided on the site, it's only really "open" if you consider using CineForm and a Windows based system "open". I'd classify something like the GVG Infinity as an Open PC architecture as their Codec reliance is completely platform independent and isn't based on a proprietary system like CineForm.

Sorry for bitching.... it's just been one of those days. I'm excited about the camera, but extremely disappointed with the announced specifications of the recorder.

I think they could have chosen better video footage, but the stills look good- they look like they are from a decent SLR camera.

Anyone notice they say compatible with F-mount lenses? Is that the nikon f-mount?

I was interested to buy one of Silicon Imaging's sensor more than one year ago to build my own camera but Steve Nordhauser wrote me that they were working on a complete camera production and I could be interested to wait.

So, i don't think we can say that the SI-1920HDVR is just a concept especially because they are selling already most of the required parts to build a camera. (sensors, frame grabbers, ect...)

It was a project more than a concept and they did it.
Congratulations to all the Silicon Imaging Team.

I not sure we can say the same about RED...

Yeah, the stills look nice. The Nikon F-Mount is the only F-Mount lens system I'm aware of, so I'd assume it's referring to the Nikon mount.
