But you're not including shipping. Something I hate from those shops, prices are excellent, but then they charge you so highly for shipping.

To the original poster, I know that guy, I talked to him via-email last week, and bought 26 tapes from him, he seems like a good guy, hopefully I'll receive em soon.

well, I guess we have an advantage being that we're very close to B&H: their shipping is VERY low for us, and with UPS Ground we still get it delivered the next day, so it's a really sweet deal here. But yeah, your mileage and postage may vary! ;-)

Maybe, I live in LA, lol.

I just hate that though, wait, not to mention taxes, you see? even if it was what, 4.30 a piece?, taxes would come in at %8, making it around $5 a piece.

No taxes if ordering online and not shipping to NY state.

Really, their shipping is not that bad. But that eBay deal is okay too, especially for smaller quantity; I only offered the B&H price as a comparison.

lol, I think EVS it is thats near me down here, they charge around 4.80 I believe, not sure, but they also charge taxes which bothers me, irritates me, shipping I understand but taxes? :Drogar-Evil(DBG):

Yeah, I would definatly order from BH from NY if those are the prices, and shipping is worth it. Maybe after I use up the 26 tapes that are coming to me, I'll check it out.
 
I believe there is a lower sales tax rate for productions companies, something on the order of 3 or 3.5%. You could check with Tommy Mack at EVS.
 
On a more GENERAL issue though:
$5 for this tape IS EXCELLENT value: it's an awesome tape, and for $5 we can get ONE HOUR and almost 5 minutes worth of footage captured.

Put in context; it's an awesome deal. In the end one should buy from where one feels most comfortable at; if a store is a few pennies more expensive per hour worth of captured footage, it really matters not.

I can speak highly of EVS and B&H, and I buy from both.
 
Yeah, I agree.

Blaine, you're right, they also do that with Cameras, and everything else, but I'm just an independent filmmaker that makes movies, I don't own a production company or anything.

I totally agree, vidled. I always get mine from EVS. Because I'm in SoCal, I get them the next day from UPS. I've received offers from other places where I could save a few cents per tape but I am so pleased with EVS' service that I don't bother to go anywhere else.
 
Another good place to shop... especially if you're in LA is tapestockonline.com I've gotten all my tapes from there, and there ground shipping arrives the next morning, if you order in the morning in the SoCal area.

I am so jealous! I live in Machias, Washington and am not close to anything but the Canadian border. It seems anything I need for video work I have to order. It also never fails that wherever I am ordering from is located on the east coast :-). I can, however, enjoy listening into this link and wish it were me saying "I live close to....so it is cheap to send it."
