Alright kids; get your butts in shape !

J.R. Hudson

Spirit Animal
I am adopting a new workout plan. I first discovered these guys in watching some behind the scenes of Zacks new flick 300 and saw this:

Production Blog by www.gymjones.com

-

In studying their site I found this:

Crossfit.com

Both sites tend to practice and preach the same ideal; routine is boring, todays fitness teaches us to isolate muscle groups as well as focus on appearance over actual fitness ...

Anyways ...

-

I had not worked out until today for 3 weeks and 4 days due to having Ebola. But I feel so awesome right now after working out !

-

I did:

Stretching
Shot a few hoops (ex Gym Rat) (15 Minutes for warm up)
Ran 1.5 Miles at 5.6 mph speed average

6 Rotations of:

5x Pull-ups
10x Push-ups
20x Russian Twists (Using 3 KG Medicine Ball as the 5kg was being used) and a maximum number of rotations in 20 minutes

then moved on to:

12 Burpees (In the Coast Guard we called it Body Builders; they hurt), get air (6")
12 Squat snatches, 45 pound barbell
21 Wall Ball shots, 10 foot target, 20 pound ball

---------

By now I was dead. Anyways; if this motivates you to get motivated, then share with us !

sitting on your (my) ass in an edit suite all day does some damage. ****. im tired just reading your post. ****. ****.

dood.. what do you eat for breakfast?

I have been trying to get myself motivated to get back into shape...I think you have inspired me. Tomorrow I will return to my old routine of hitting the gym over my lunch break (because of my commuting schedule its the only time I can get to the gym, but it worked well for me before).

Thanks for the motivation...we'll get in shape together. Who knows, maybe we'll have a Mr. DVX Universe contest in a year or so

Awesome Larry ! Do it! Do it!

Kova

Today I had 4 egg whites (hard boiled) and a piece of wheat toast for breakfast.

-

Don't worry guys; I'm not like some crazy extreme dude; I drink too much and like FOOD too much. But I do like to stay fit and healthy DESPITE MY BAD HABITS

-

We went out for Sushi and beer Saturday and let's say I'm not feeling terribly guilty about the chocolate chip cookies my wifes baked later than night !

For the past year, my exercise program has consisted of one (1) situp a day. Half of it was when I sat up in bed in the morning and the other half was when I laid down in bed at night

But in all seriousness I've been trying to motivate myself to get back into shape since Christmas. I have never had such a hard time getting started, but I guess that comes with getting older (I'll be 34 next month you know) :)

Anyway, thanks John...I think this is just the motivation I needed. I'm not looking forward to being sore all week, but its the price I have to pay for letting it go for SOOO long.

Dude you just gotta want to be in pain, ya know ? It feels good.

Too think in June I'll have quit smoking an entire year!

Oh I agree...the normal pain of working out does feel good...and I always feel good after having worked out. It's just that first week when every fiber in your body is screaming out in pain at once and the slightest movement causes 100 gallons of lactic acid to burn in every muscle of your body!!! That's the part I don't like. Once you get past that's it's cake (just don't eat the cake  )

Congrat's on the almost 1 year dude. Your "quit smoking" thread is what inspired me to finally quit drinking soda. I was drinking WAY too much and when I would tell myself I would just drink one a week or something like that, it never lasted. So I decided to take control of my body and just give it up completely.

Soda is the devil. I rarely have one. When I do Carne Asada I might get a Coke but rarely drink that crap. It's like 4 Million Pounds of Sugar in a glass.

In fact, sugar is something I am trying to really limit or get only from fruit for example. I do need it in my Coffee though (just a teaspoon)

I'm sure I'll be hurting manana after the hiatus but the Mile Swim I do will make the pain numb

LOL!

Yea, last fall I did Phase 1 from the South Beach Diet, which is basically two weeks of no starch or sugar. Just lean meat and vegetables (no corn or carrots, which contain sugar) - no bread, pasta, etc. Kind of like Atkin's except with South Beach you re-introduce the starches and sugar's back in for a balanced diet once you get your body back in to proper working order.

Anyway, after 2 weeks I had lost 17 pounds...and that was without exercising. So, that was a real eye-opener regarding sugar....so I am tyring to be real careful with it now, hence the reason why I am cutting out soda. I drink a lot of water, unsweetened ice tea, and Crystal Light (I know it has fake sugar, but I need something to break up the monotony).

I've been on a modified low carb diet for about two years now. I lost 38 pounds and have been able to keep it off for about 13 months, now. Splenda...no sugar. Coca Cola Zero or Diet Pepsi...

Wow, some people work out?

lol, I hit the gym 3 times week, cardio 6 times week. I do hypertrophy, which is working so far, I think weight lifting is my third addiction, after filmmaking and girls =)

Nice stories.

I tend to follow the rule of thumbs using The Zone (Which is South Beach more or less; South Beach was based off of the Zone)

One thing I refuse to do is commit 100%

I enjoy things too much to completely give it up but like the adage:

... in Moderation

-

Sides when you are working out like a damn fool; you can get away with cheating big time!

Just started running three weeks ago. 4 times a week 1.5 miles that's enough so far for my tubby ass. Have to up the ante if I want to compete in a planned half marathon in about 5 months time.

That's why I referred to my diet as a modified low carb. MODERATION is the key. And I don't feel I need to slurge every day. Occassional moderate lapses are easy to correct.

Yes, I too am a huge proponent of "moderation". I don't think any "diet" by itself solves the problem, because once you lose your "target weight" then you go off the diet and return life as usual and then wonder why you ballooned back up higher than you were before.

I don't advocate completely cutting out anything, unless it is harmful (e.g. smoking) or has an unrealistic control over you (e.g. my inability to control my soda intake). I just try to eat smart (e.g. limit sugary foods, limit trips to fast food restaurants, etc) and when there is a birthday party, or holiday of some sort I don't worry about having a piece of cake because I'm not eating a 1/4 of a cake every night.

When I was working out before I had great success in losing and controlling my weight even though I was still occasionally eating at fast food and still drinking at ~1 soda per day, etc. For my workout I follow the "Body For Life" plan...it is extremely effective and was the first workout program I followed that actually produced significant muscle mass. In the past I worked out with a trainer for a year and had 0 result, after a year I was still lifting the same weight with no improvement in strength. After following Body For Life I had increased muscle mass and strength in less than a month.
