HVX200 and Redrock M2/zacuto mount footage

ckarcher, your footage look fantastic. I own Canon EOS Camera and lens. And will surely look at RedRock adaptor(I was already looking at it, but bought a Canon 70-200mm/2.8f USM IS lens ;)
People said the Canon arnt the best choices because of the fix f, but worst case, I'll build an adaptor that actually support it. But I dont think I need it.

...I did'nt want to spend 10 minutes setting up the camera, M2 and monitor every time we moved from location to location...

um, 10 minutes? well, then don't get into film making if you think a 10-minute setup is a long time.

CORE, you should re-consider your logic:

If you happen to be shooting a feature or documentary, or have a small crew with limited time and are shooting available light- 10 minutes is an eternity. Accumulated over the course of a day with at least 20 setups- your 10 minute time savings is equal to over 3 hours of WASTED time.

I'm sure if you asked anyone here that has had to pay (or beg) for locations and crew/actors, equipment; you'd find that every minute on a production is important- not being ready to begin rolling at the snap of a finger is wasted time= money= never working on a crew again.

10 minutes is important when your under the gun on a real production schedule- on a real film- unless you want to be the guy the director or producer is yelling at.

love your flame- very insightful.

Dude! I'm so glad we don't have to have the limitations of shooting film... including set up times. It's so old school. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Wow, that's fast

I like at least an hour per setup minimum. For a film, I can't see more than 3 or 4 set ups in a day. There's just no way to cover the angles.

Setting up shots and lighting correctly SHOULDN'T BE OLD SCHOOL.:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I've done some run and gun stuff mixed in as well, where we just went out with what he had and lived with it, but generally I like to get the shot done right.

You know I don't mean to knock your work or anything (and really I'm not at all) but that footage looks boring and very lack lustre. Is this the best that adapter can do? Was this lit properly? It looks dull (is this compression issues and is that why there is so much grain in the background?) For the price of the m2 i'm not impressed. Homemade adapters look about the same.

Actually the DOF looks amazing to me. You could probably apply a gentle Magic Bullet post-processing to make it look a bit more filmlike, but in general, it was a very useful and effective test shoot. Thanks very much for sharing this with us.

Hey Ckarcher, You mentioned that you just ordered some lenses. I just ordered my M2 and I'm looking at some lenses now. Which lenses did you order?
I'm thinking of buying a couple of fast primes and a zoom also.

85mm f1.8 or f2.0
35-70mm f2.8
105mm f2.5

What do you think?

Yeah, somebody, please answer this. Uh oh, I expect a run on old Nikon lenses at eBay building up.

[Note to Menchifus: don't you want a nice solid 50mm in there, as well as a decent wide angle to do establishing shots?]

Too late - eBay nikons have gone up 20-25% in the last 6 months :(

The 82mm 1.8 is a great lens
the 105 f2.5 is a brilliant portrait lens
I have not been pleased with the 35-70 2.8 zoom. I find the prime lenses to be much sharper

ALso, someone brought by a sigma 28mm f1.8 (it lists new for like $300) I was really shocked at how clean it was! very nice image for such a wide angle

Sigma is also coming out with a 24mm 1.8 and a 20mm 1.8 - all very reasonably priced: under $500 as I recall

Brian, I placed an order for the M2 last Friday and an order for the MicoFF today, any idea on when I should receive either?
