Hey all, I just got a gig as an HD tech for two days on a huge national commercial for one of the nations biggest auto parts stores directed by one of the top guys. I can't tell you who because of NDA and such, but we used the Mini 35 system and top cinema glass. I thought you all would like to see that so I took some pics and, well...

Over all I liked the image coming out of the mini 35 but it definately loses resolution and a LOT of light, which means we were shooting +3db gain almost all the time. So I'm gonna try a few more adapters and see what else is out there. For down conversion to SD though this is by far the closest thing to 35mm I've ever seen in a video signal.

Nice looking rig!
When you say that you had to shoot with the gain up, are you talking about shooting outdoors? How many stops do you estimate was lost through the mini35?

LOL....a eubangi and a tango head...on a Fisher...that is a monster rig for just a small little camera....looks badass!

I'd like to see it, when the commercial is on air, can you give us the footage? Ya know, you do a favor to the company also. I live in Italy, is this commercial also broadcasted here?

Thanks!

p.s.: That Angeniux lens costs as my life, is my life a product that could be selled? :) Maybe I can sell my body to a snuff video project...it's the only way to use that lens!

hard to say, at least 3 stops of loss.
It was very overcast for most shots, so yes gain outside. But you really couldn't see it becasue the Mini 35 ground glass already added a texture of it's own, the gain just kinda blended into that.

Goddammet what a setup! Sexy chocolad. :love4: Thanks for the pics.

Evinsky,

That capture cart looks very interesting. What does it do? Does it allow you to get smooth rolling shots?

Also, it looksw like the camera can be raised slightly as well. When you raise the camera on this thing, is the motion smooth like a crane-shot?

How much are those capture cart things?

wow.. great piccys... shame other people here involved in pro-work cant post some from their shoots.. fab stuff.... thanks man!!

cheers

Kind of suprised they wouldn't shoot varicam...looks like they have plenty budget. The M2 doesn't lose nearly that much light; I typically need nds when shooting in daylight .

The M2 doesnt use Cinema Lens either, just 35mm SLR lens correct? Not to mention those big zooms have a lot of glass to have light travel through...the loss of light makes a lot of sense.

Yes, that dolly (Fisher 10 or 11 I believe) has a boom on it. It is a hydraulic system with an analog control...so the operator can control the speed of the boom with his own input. And the movement is very smooth.

I just realized the monitor with the "hoodman" is actually your powerbook....Where did you get that nice little thing??? That is a fantastic little accessory.

Thanks. But how much are they? Or is this more of a rental-type piece of equipment?
