Actually a lot of wedding videographers are deliviring in high definition by bundling a free high definition DVD player. However these decks do cost $350 so it may cut into profits because most people are not willing to pay extra for high definition . Most high definition videographers charge extra not for high definition but for 2 camera shoots wedding reception coverage still photography services etc. So for the more expensive wedding packages the deck can easily be absorbed.
I think the ability to deliver in high definition at no extra charge can give the wedding videographer a competitive edge so long as he can demonstrate the experience necessary to do a good job. But I think that most people will be totally turned off with the idea of a novice thinking he can do a better job because he has a high definition camera. That novice should shoot for free until he can produce a good demo reel.
