Got my HVX today, but how do I stream HD to PC?

I don't have a P2 card as I'm waiting for the Firestore, but how do I capture HD to my PC? SD DV works as usual, but do I need more software than the P2 driver on CD?

Pascal, maybe the first Swiss with a HVX in his hands. :)

I've been trying this as well, but with no luck.

SD DV streams fine, but nothing else works. No DVCPRO50, NO DVCPROHD.

Working in Avid -- and I'm thinking it must be the laptop that is too slow to handle it.

What NLE are you trying to capture in?

Are you asking how to stream or how to make it work? I think those are two different things.

To stream I'm pretty sure all you have to do is put the camera in host mode and you can capture directly to your online editor.

Streaming doesn't use host mode. Streaming means live output from the firewire jack, so it's always streaming whenever in camera or MCR/VCR mode. "host mode" means specifically *not* streaming; host mode means file transfers. When in host mode you only want to use USB with the PC, or firewire with the Mac.

Streaming is always firewire.

Well, host mode is just for transfering files, but it does not help me to capture in HD without P2 or Firestore or Cineporter. So, how do I capture in HD? It works for SD.

The software coming with the HVX did not help me, and I still haven't figured out how to capture HD to harddisk. So how does it work?

You need an application capable of capturing live HD over firewire. At the moment, the only ones that exist are built into high-end video editing suites. On the PC side, Edius Broadcast and Avid Express HD, or the MAC side Final Cut Pro.

In the (near?) future, DV Rack will support HD live capture, which will likely be a more economical solution to capturing live on the go.

Avid???

Avid???

I tested avid hd and I CAN'T capture streaming. Did i do something wrong?

I looked at help and it says that they can't capture dvcprohd only edit it.

Please could you say me wich software captures dvcprohd streaming for sure?

thanks

Edius Broadcast and FCP both definitely do, and I'm 99.5% certain that Avid does as well. I uninstalled it so I can't test it, but I'm pretty sure that I captured streaming HD from Avid 5.2.1.

I've got the full version and it does do streaming capture. My current system isn't fast enough to keep up with it, but it's definitely enabled. Don't know about the demo version, but the real version does.

Well, hi folks !

The demo of Edius pro 3.61/broadcast (built together)

Works just fine with capture, i have the pal version so i can only use
1080 ,,there is no 720 for pal users yet :(

Use general OHCI not mpeg capture :)

I think v5.2.4 of Xpress Pro HD solves more issues with Avid and the HVX. Try that.

Technician, are you sure? Edius Broadcast lists all sorts of "Canopus HD" formats, including European-compatible 1080/50i, and "720/50p over 60p". Do those not work?

Can't, it'd have to wait until I get a new system. My current system doesn't have XP Pro (it's XP Media Center instead) and so Avid won't support it if anything goes wrong. It's not worth reformatting the whole drive over, so I'll just wait until I get an MBP and I'll install XPPro on that.

Avid can capture HD formats in Avid Express Pro HD except for 720p/23.976 and 1080p/24...

From Avid Website:
__________________________________________________________
Native HDV: 1080i/59.94, 1080i/50, 720p/29.97 only
Native DVCPRO HD: 1080i/59.94, 1080i/50, 720p/60, 720p/24 only
720p/23.976 and 1080p/24 HD project types. (Footage of these formats may be captured in other Avid systems such as Avid Media Composer Adrenaline HD and edited in Avid Xpress Pro 5.2.)
_________________________________________________________

In order to get these formats into Avid you have to use a media composer adrenaline or higher, and then pull them into Express Pro HD.

Sorry to ask a pretty basic question and I don't mean to jack the thread but what the hell editing system works with this camera?
