Is it possible to do everything on premier pro 2.0 what we can do on FCP ??

FCP has variable time remaping.

FCP has variable time remaping.

FCP has good adjustible time control. My 1.5 P. P didn't have remaping. I keep reading about 1.5 having problems with 24pa but it was supposed to be built for that. Who can keep chasing someones faulty software until they get it right. It sould work out of the box or don't release it. Glad I switched.

Comparing FCP to an old version of Premiere really isn't fair. 2.0 is light years ahead of 1.5, and an all around amazing piece of software.

And for the record, I NEVER had a problem with 1.5 and 24pa.

I used PP for several years simply because I couldn't afford a mac that was comparable to my home built PC. Since, the prices of PowerMac G5's have dropped and I moved on to FCP.

PP served it purpose, but had to be babied in many ways. I ended up buying a matrox rtx-100 card for real time effects rendering. $1000 for that ouch! The matrox card needs 3 hard drives and is picky about what hardware is in your PC. Windows can be tweaked for max performance with PP, but that doesn't always work out well for your other programs. I found it best to just use my PC as a dedicated PP editing system. Long story short, PP did the job, but was a pain in the tush in comparison to FCP.

When I bought my G5, I brought it home and started editing. No tweaks, no extra cards, no high end PC hardware, no crashes, etc. I can use other demanding programs like Maya or Shake without worrying about what it will do to FCP. I think the key is not only FCP, but Mac. Mac's are designed with multi-media in mind and can handle it well. I can't say that there is anything that one does better than the other in my experiences of using both PP and FCP. I can say that FCP has caused less heartache and fewer (if any) problems. And dang that Mac is fast.

I have also used Vegas off and on. It is great as well. Nice and simple workflow. I think that I am just more familiar with the the layout of PP and FCP. Vegas, from what I have seen, needs less pampering the PP.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Hey snodart,

What did you have in your pc? and how was the transition to mac?
I'm asking because I have pc now, using an old edition of pp, but I am getting a g5 within a couple weeks. Not sure if I can afford to get FCP right away (so friggin expensive) Just want to know if its worth the transition over. Whats the learning curve like?

I have to agree that 2.0 is a huge advance over 1.5 in so many ways. I haven't used FCP that much, but to me it's just a matter of what system (mac or pc) your comfortable with. I work with fixitinpost on a regular basis, and the system he runs PP2.0 on blows my system out of the water, and from what I can gather, he really doesn't ever have problems with it's stability. Everyone's going to have good and bad experiences with both systems. To me, it doesn't matter either way. I know PP2.0 way better than FCP, but I find it pretty easy to move between the two apps in regard to all the editing basics.

Old PC had:
MOBO: ASUS P4P800 with 865PE Chipset

PROCESSOR: Intel Pentium 4/ 2.8C GHz 800MHz FSB

RAM: 1G Corsair

STORAGE:
System drive: 40MB
Capture & Audio/Video drive: 200MB
Dedicated export/render drive: 200MB

VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA Ge Force4 Ti 4200

CAPTURE CARD: Matrox RT.X100 Xtreme Pro

CASE/POWER SUPPLY: Chieftech case W/ Austin 450W Power supply

I say that it is way worth the transition over. FCP and PP are so much alike in workflow that there isn't much of a learning curve at all. A few things are in different spots as far as commands and shortcuts, but that is a quick learn. I'm not sure if you are a student or are affiliated with a teaching institution, but there are some insane deals on software out there. I have never used this website myself, but I know people who have bought from them and all was well.
