Today i was in school, stayed after class to practice editing the documentary see what is the best format , export etc. Well this would have been a great excercise if i had only been able to import any video. I have recorded 1080i 25p footage witch i will use i hope due to the incompatability of FCP with 720 25p. Anyhoo, thought oh great, set it to 1080 50i, connected cam via firewire after installing onto G5 tower in school, everything seemed ok, when i set cam to firewire device mode the mac detected the camera and likewise the camera said connected. The P2 cards were commin up as drives like without the P2 logo but this didnt stop FCP from detecting the footage in P2 importer. So, clicked on the footage, import....... error, the footage canot be imported as format may be incompatable, corrupt etc etc. and that was it, tried changing properties etc, no joy.
So i thought mabe it was that i recorded in 25p, tried 50i, guess what same deal. The funny thing is i did the same thing with a guys power book but plugged in the P2 card directly int he side, and he could import and edit the stuff.
Any idea if it was FCP, me, or the G5 that was doing wrong?
How come the powerbook was importing while the G5 with firewire was not?
How come i dont see the nice P2 card logos pop up when i conected the cam on the desctop? i installed the software dont worry.
Also one unrelated question, however very important, the class has started using my camera for excersizes, we did some slow mo 720PN footage 25p, for like a music vid thing, just for practice, i then was told we would have to edit this, in school we are working FCP, is there any way of captuing, and or downconverting on camera, anything so the class can use this. I considered using raylight and vegas to make .mov files, but im sure there is a better way on the mac.
Im considering just shooting my doc on SD atm, because of these problems i have been facing, but in my opinion if i have been shooting in 1080i 25p and its been working on some randoms powerbook, it shuld work on the G5 with firewire cam connection. Any ideas to what im doing wrong?
Help me HVX's-ers, your my only hope :dankk2:
