I read in a few post that the 16 gigs version of the P2 cards will be release in the upcoming weeks, does any one heard any reliable comment regarding this ?

Meanwhile does any one know if a 80 or 100 gigs version of the AJ-PCS060G should be release soon ?

I don’t know why Panasonic is so secret about all those release date. I know they want to protect there R&D and use a planed marketing but I really feel like we are the one paying for this lack of communication.

No release date has ever been given for the 16gig cards. Panasonic can't comment as to when future cards will be available because they're at the mercy of the underlying technology being developed. 16gig cards have to wait until 20MBps 4-gig SD cards are released on the market. And they're not out yet. So until those come out, a 16-gig P2 card can't be developed.

Those P2 cards are a joke for the HVX. By the time the 16 Gig cards are out, You'll be able to pick the 500 Gig Cineporter from the shelf for 3999$.

I think it could be wise to wait for a first version of the Cineporter before claiming that. Panasonic have been in the industry and have experience behind them.

The Cineporter could be a good products but so far its still at the “could be state” and many company have been there before and most of them have failed or success with major production line issue witch will probably be the case with the Cineporter…

Jan did say there might be something about the 16GB P2 cards at NAB.

The current GUESS is this summer or fall, but I'm guessing that late winter is when we'll really see them...

Or... there could be something much bigger coming.

The HVX400 with 4K resolution, for 4K$ and included 400Gig harddrive? But hey, who need that resolution? Star Wars was shot with the same resolution as the HVX, and filmmakers even say, that the footage had to be blurred, because it was too sharp. And the full resolution won't be used anyway.

A few months before the HVX was announced Panasonic released a chart outlining the planned release dates for P2 technology. I believe the chart was graphed in years. I've been looking for it everywhere but can't find it.

yeah, I know the image you're talking about. I think it was just to demonstrate the projected production over the next few years (I think up to 2007) and roughly when the size was going to be released. I don't know how accurate it was, but I do know what you're talking about here.

The doge viper is a car and the Honda civic is a car, even same number of wheels...

Weird comparison? Comparing the hvx to the 4:4:4 HD signal used for Star Wars is a million time worst....

Its ok to love your HVX but don’t fall into blind love…

The odds of a price drop are VERY good once the 16 GB P2 cards start shipping.

If we look at the price for the 4GB cards over time, we see their price has dropped. Even the 8GB P2 cards have dropped in price already and the 16GB cards aren't even out yet.

That would be nice, but I believe the economies of production dictate drops, not just high capacity cards.

More demand, more production, and less cost are the factors, not necessarily the availability of larger cards alone

The problem for me with the 16 gig cards is:

It takes longer to transfer to your offload soluion.
That makes the need to have 3 or more cards a must.
3 or more cards makes it that much more expensive.

No way to store individual 16 gig files (like you can to dvd wiht the 4 gig)

Why not make a large hard drive p2 store?

This is not the graph you were refering to, however it is a panasonic one.
If I remeber correctly the 16GB cards were due 2007.

Kind regards
