incomplete yet I wanna share the grabs with you guys

It's been a long time since I posted the last thread here. I've been away... busy surviving in NY. Everything's so fast and expensive.

Anyway, my nv factory crew and I shot a music video last friday. I wanted to share it with you guys as soon as I did some color correction on it. This music video is my first and my production company's as well. Although we had absolutely no budget, it went rather well. I realized again that what really matter is not how much money you got, but how passionate the people you work with. We had a great time shooting it.

This music video is divided into 2 parts; performance and story. Performance part is finished that day and we're shooting the story part in 2 weeks after the audition. Well, I can't wait to hear what you think about the grabs. I don't think there's any place better than here where people really criticize and encourage each other because they care. All of my respect... to you guys. Thank you.

Those guys are cool. Nice location. Can't wait to see the final thing.
Tell us about the story.
Oh yea. Echostream is awesome. Good music. Great people! I am so lucky to meet these guys.

And the story is basically this.. it’s about a guy named James following his heart by turning against his crime partner, Russell, to save a kidnapped innocent girl during a small break-in one late night. The story begins unfolding at an underground parking lot where James faces Russell, and it goes back to when they kidnapped a girl during a break-in earlier and James starting to fall for the girl. In the end, James saves the girl and himself from gun-shooting violent Russell.

The story might sound cheesy but we'll try hard to make it not so. I hope...^^

What's cheesy? Just make sure you 'do it up'. You've got two dark mysterious people so you're already a step ahead.

How did you do the color correction where by the skin tone stays the same but the background is fully color corrected.
Did you do the normal multiple layer embeded on each other method or what?

By the way, you should have given us the real grabs and the CC ones. I think that will allow us to judge more on how you turned things around to make the grabs look filmic.

What software did you use to achieve this and could you please give a short tutorial :)

Loved it!

two dark mysterious people... I like the way you describe them. During shooting, we laughed so many times that it's sorta weird to see them look so serious.

Looking good! I can't wait to see more :D

Mind sharing what you did lighting-wise?

Keep us posted
I basically wanted to do lens flair effects throughout the performance act. That's why I placed a couple of lights in the back of talents lighting toward the camera. We only had a small DV-use lighting kit from Lowell so we couldn't quite get the full effect I wanted but pretty happy with now. And also to balance the brightness on talents' faces, we had to place some lights in front of their faces, too. That was our basic setup.

I am no one who could give you tutorial on anything. I only lighted them with slightly white lights instead of yellow lights. I don't know if that had helped. I only think it might have had because the CC work I did was involving tinting a light brown color over it.

I'll post some original grabs later and thank you for loving it. I appreciate it.

Does'nt look like the DVX usually does.

Which camera is this ?
This is DVX100a with factory settings. I only tweaked around the scene file to have more contrast.

I have a question. What made you think it doesn't look like DVX images? I am curious.

I meant it in a NOT BAD way.

It looks really really good (The color palette was different that what I have seen in a long time)

I cant wait to see the MV

I'm really impressed with the colors and the crisp quality. Did you use any adapters? Which software? Really good job on crushing the blacks without killing the color balance.

No adaptors. No add ons whatsoever. BTW, I really wish I could buy one of those 35mm adaptor now. And for the editing goes, I used Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 and MB. I think colors came out better because of the fog machine we used. It made the lighting a little softer and helped bring out the color better without too much blow out.
