ch3/ch4 level control and monitoring

Received my hvx200e, hooray!
But nowhere in manual, search threads or elsewhere can I find any info on how to control and monitor the audio inputs for channels 3 and 4.
Any suggestions? -thanks!

It seems you can't.

My HVX should be here in a few days, until then my plan is:

1) Set gain controls to middle position
2) Switch controls so XLRs are 1 and 2, line input
3) Set levels using extrernal preamp and HVX meters
4) Switch so that XLRs are 3 and 4, internal mics are 1 and 2
5) Set gains for internal mics using gain controls.

...on the assumption that the fixed gain setting for 3 and 4 is equivalent to the middle of the gain control range.

Give it a shot?

thanks ullanta!
your suggestion is similar to what I thought about doing. It shure would have been nice, though, if one didn't have to do such workarounds.

It seems that a small external gain control is necessary. I'm thinking about having my tech build a small box for just that. (I'll be working with a combination of wireless and shotgun).

As mentioned before, I have plans to do a mod that'll bypass the inbuilt mic with two new input xlr's, but I'll probably wait some months. I'd like to see if there are problems with the cam, before losing my warranty by drilling holes or removing the built in mic :nads:

Sorry, Lighthouse - HVX doesn't allow recording from the RCA jacks except in VCR mode. That would be a great firmware update, though!

There's a chart in the manual with full detail; if I remember correctly, Channel 3/4 are from the internal mics EXCEPT when 1/2 are set to internal mics; then XLRs are 3/4.

There's no control for 3/4; they're determined by the 1/2 settings. And, no gain control or metering. That's why the convoluted scheme above seems best...
