well i am being paid to film every highschool soccer game of the season and edit a video at the end of it... how much do u guys think i should suggest to be paid for each soccer game and the final edit as well? im just curious because i dont want to be rude and overcharge... im still in highschool but i have lots of editing ad filming under my belt.. i have already done a paid job for 300 and that was to film cars drifiting..... well if anyone can give me some tips on how much to charge it would be well appreciated

I'll tell you what I charged for high school football. For the amount of time I put into it, I got paid next to nothing. Had a friend run the upper camera from the highest point every game. I ran one on the field. Each week I took the upper camera footage, made a dvd for game review for coaches. Each of the kids bought a copy, I only charged 5 bucks each. That was just because the coaches worked hard, I wanted to do this for them to review.

Then I took all that footage, pulled out the good plays (highlights), the bad plays (bloopers) each week, then deleted the original to save space. Created a highlight film about 40 min long. Charged 25 bucks each, and the school paid me 500 bucks for supplies, and part of my time.

So with all that I brought in about 1500. Not bad considering I would have done it for free for my son anyway... shhhhh.....

There are a lot of variables involved in what you are doing. The most important is the school's budget for doing something like this. Talk to them frankly and see if you can get a figure to work with. Time, materials, additional equipment, extra help, duplicating costs, and don't forget, your equipment is exposed to the environment and will more than likely need some maintenance after you're done with this. It is good to put on your resume and add to your portfolio, but doing this for fun is more fun with doing it for money. By the way what kind of equipment do you have?

When I was in high school I got paid $10 per game to shoot basketball. The boys and girls games were usually back to back, so it was $20 a pop, on camera. They mainly used the tapes for study after the game and the school provided my equipiment and transportation to away games. For me it was mainly just fun, good experience, and got me into games for free.

I'm sure you can probably do better than that, but there's a "low end" scenario for ya!

It depends. If they just want it raw, unedited, you should charge taking in consideration what rental houses are asking for a day of renting a camera similar to yours and gear (that's what you are doing, too). Than on top of that, decide what your fee is. Editing, and all that has to be calculated separatelly.
