Dropped my DVX! And it's broken . . .

Thanks, Barry…your help is greatly appreciated. That part number is exactly what I needed. Once again I am humbled by the power of DVX User. This place is the best!

Now that you mention it, that’s a valid point about the DVX design. The lens & electronics of my camera appear to be unaffected by the impact. It could have been a LOT worse.

I will call Panasonic in the morning and order the focus assembly.

Barry for Herofest? I like that idea!

Good luck w/ everything. I've had my share of cam problems including a similar fall to yours. The lens hood snapped off, but everything worked fine.

i feel like your horrific but (relatively?) small setback is actually a victory for all DVX owners (especially those of use who do silly things like ride thru the snow with our cameras)...this camera rules.this forum rules.you will fix your badass camera for cheap and you too again will rule...amen

Agreed. Not so long ago, an accident like this would've meant shipping the camera off to some faraway place, potentially weeks of downtime waiting on its return, and a hefty repair bill.

The collective wisdom on this forum is incredible. Viva DVXUser!

I feel your pain my cam took a nasty nose dive off the tripod. I was lucky enough that it still works so far. I hope your cam still works for you.

Man, last summer I did almost the exact same thing to my DVX with strikingly similar results. Luckily I found an authorized service center about an hour away from where I live. The guys there were very helpful and fixed it for under $100. I think it was that same piece that they replaced too!

Sean! How could you do this to her?!:crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:

Tim, now I know how Darth Vader felt in Episode III, when he stepped forward and exclaimed, "Noooooooooooooooooo!"

But there is good news today: the new focus assembly just arrived! Very fast turnaround by Panasonic.

For those of you who plan on dropping your DVX, it looks like you can also order these parts online here:

However, I called the 800 number Barry provided and got immediate service.

Our patient is resting comfortably and in good spirits . . .

I hope this teaches you a lesson. Now that dvx is going to have to go to all her friends and say "yeah I ran into a doorknob" or "i tripped going down the stairs"

You have created an environment of shame for that poor little camera. I hope you take btter care of her now that you put her in the hospital.

You bastard.

lol - Fortunately, my camera is more forgiving than the angry mob. I think I shall name her "Lucille." (It worked well for B.B. King.)

As penance, I shall wear Lucille's old focus ring around my neck, like an albatross.

Surgery was a quick outpatient procedure, and all went well. I was relieved to see that the $55 part is a complete focus unit, and not just the broken ring. It was a simple matter to attach it onto the body.

We're once again a happy family...

woo hoo Barry S to the rescue, good work guys.

I bet that 18 inch fall felt like 3 minutes long though.. I remember when my tripod fell over once with my DVX on it it felt like a day watching it go down.

Glad all is good Sean..

Man, I once droped a 35mm lens I just bought on the floor and I literaly felt like crying. I cannot imagine the pain that must have gonne through your heart. I hold my FX1 like it was a baby...if I get more attached to it I'll start feeding it. I REALLY hope it works out for you.

Thanks Jarred, and special thanks to Barry_S, without whom my camera would still be lying in pieces.

The fall did happen in silky smooth slow-motion. And as I looked down upon my broken camera, I froze--it took my brain a moment to reluctantly accept what had just happened. I didn't want to believe it.

Learn from my mistake, everyone. Handle your babies with care!
