HVX200 and Redrock M2/zacuto mount footage

Rest assured the CA is NOT from the M2. The lense I used was cheap but had a unique look. I could have used a set of great Nikon lenses I had with me (a 50mm and a 105mm portrait) but the zoom I used for 90% of the shots was the cheap F*cked lense because it just looked interesting after color correcting. (note: the files posted were before color correction)

Since the project was slated for downconvert to standard definition and the client liked the overall highlight glow, I used the cheap glass and they we extremely happy with the Digibeta masters.

I think it's easy to point out technical details and flaws; however, sometimes a unique look can supercede pure resolution.

I'll be shooting another project soon with fast/sharp Nikon primes and that is what i love about the M2- I can make optical changes that suits the creative.

Ckarcher,

Yeah, it's quite possible that the CA is from the taking lens. It just looked consistent with CA i've seen in other M2 footage.

Don't mind me. I'm just being picky! I really love the footage you posted. Especially the wide angle stuff. And the slow-mo with the train/trolley looks sweet. You nailed the focus too, which is hard to do.

peace

I'll shoot some material tomorrow with the Nikon 80-220 F4 and confirm it's the elcheapo lense creating the CA.

It's also looking like I'll be shooting/directing a short drama segment for checking fraud (banking Industry) on the HVX/M2 early next month- think "24" meets "Snatch"

It should be fun, and a great way to get to know the M2 for dramatic workflow and imagery.

Footage looks great...! I saw the post at the M2 Forum and I am extremely impressed. I've ordered the M2 and will get an HVX200 shortly after I get the M2 in my hands. I presently have an Ikegami HL-DV7W 2/3" CCD I wonder if the M2 will work with it? Thanks for posting footage...!

Try using Download Accelerator Plus by Speedbit. Just Google it. It allows you to resume downloads if the server konks out on you.

...and it will speed your downloads up too.

BTW, most browsers boast resume for downloads but Netscape, IE, and Firefox don't always come through.

DAP is great and I can pause a download if I want and start it back up when I come back on to my computer.

Which lenses?

Which lenses?

Hey Ckarcher,

You mentioned that you just ordered some lenses. I just ordered my M2 and I'm looking at some lenses now. Which lenses did you order?

I'm thinking of buying a couple of fast primes and a zoom also.

85mm f1.8 or f2.0
35-70mm f2.8
105mm f2.5

What do you think?

I got a 28mm F1.8 and a 50mm F1.4 (would love a 1.2!!)

Next up is an 85mm F1.8, and I'd also like a decently fast zoom (faster than 2.8).

Its nice, not sure if its as good as that G35 Beta that is on annother post.

Noticing on the hood of the car as its turning some major problems with colour, foggyness, is that the CA you guys are talking about. hmm thats a big diturbing, i know it cant be perfect an image, mabe u dont need it to be, but thats not what id like to see on my footage.

Without buying $$$ worth of expensive glass can you still get good quality images without all that smudging and coloured fog? pardon my descriptions.
Depth of field is nice, but i wouldnt want to sacrifice too much of the quality, after all ur paying allot of money for that quality when you buy the camera.

Since you lots of time on your hands :) can you shoot a CU of someone with
loft lighting against a solid background? Use one of the Nikon primes if
you can. I would like to see how the unit handles skin tones and noise
levels under controlled lighting.

Ckarcher,

Really looks nice, man! Thanks for sharing. I'm hoping to get a complete set-up soon, except for the follow focus. I was going to purchase the bepop controller as I'd get a lot more use out of it.. and should work well in this situation, I'm hoping...

Anyone care to chim in about the bepop and such?

The redrock stuff looks sweet. Anyone know the price of the full suite? or packaged out for adapter, rods with support, and matte box?

keep up the great shooting, bro!

M2 Adapter and rods with shim kit (so the HVX will line up best with the adapter) will run you about $1,050. with shipping. Don't know about the mattebox.

It's not too far from the price as the G35, which is $1,300. without rods.

You know I don't mean to knock your work or anything (and really I'm not at all) but that footage looks boring and very lack lustre. Is this the best that adapter can do? Was this lit properly? It looks dull (is this compression issues and is that why there is so much grain in the background?)

For the price of the m2 i'm not impressed. Homemade adapters look about the same.

Angrius- did you even read the post? it was a test shot of my camera AC.

Yes it is an interview setup and frankly, it blows away most of the material I've seen for interviews because they usually have incredible deep DOF.

looking at it on my HD broadcast monitor in my studio- it looks amazing- this is more of a credit to the camera and M2 than myself.

I actually went back and read your post more carefully.

I don't know..I think it looks mediocre. I think gusker has a better product going on honestly. I've viewed a lot of the m2 footage and it's just lacking something imho.
To each their own I guess.

didnt see the footage but im happy peole likes the dof obtained. ordered last week an m2 for my hvx but had to buy mb and ff chroziel because the m2 package is yet to come. have set up this system based on this forum toughts and i'm scared like a sheep that it will be below my expectations.

Has anyone noticed a distinct look to the 35mm adapters? It looks a bit like Technicolor. As if the colour channels were a bit offset from each other.

I dont understand why you have this problem except if your ISP use a broken Transparent proxy server.

As for the speed, it has a dedicated 100mbits, and hvx200.moctel.com is the ONLY thing on the whole server, you should get up to close to the 100mbits. I get 10mbits full from my home.
