PAL HVX200. How do we edit in FCP?

Mvb, can you tell us the native resolution of the Pal codec? 960v720 or 1280v720?

It's 960 x 720, same as the 720-60p format. There is about
20% wasted space because two of the frames are stored in
the space of a single 1080i50 frame, which is a shame
considering how the DVCPROHD format otherwise tries
to squeeze in every bit.

Thanks for the info, MVB. You should bless us with your codec on the Mac! :)

As for the resolution, its a shame, but no problem. The footage posted on the web from the NTSC camera, at 720p, looks gorgeous anyway. There's still the 1440 resolution in 1080i (is this correct, mvb?)

Correct the native frame size is 1440 x 1080 for 1080i50 or 1080-50p

Try to pm mvb, he'll certainly help!

Digital Angel, have you got your camera? Your opinions? I'm in Asia awaiting for mine...

I have the camera in my hands. So far a couple of thoughts. Build quality wise, not as good as the Sony IMO. Feels quite plasticy in places. Picture quaily wise, too early to say though the Sony has a much cleaner image in low light.

However, I am comparing HDV on the Sony with Dv on the Panasonic, as I can't yet shoot HD. Whether that makes any difference only time will tell.

Also the LCD screen on the Sony is much much better, but the HVX has the great idea in focus enhance, which is a major plus.

Weight wise the HVX is heavier than the Sony, and will give arm ache after a period of time. Better get down the gym!

I kinda suspect there could be a bit of a difference. Or else you wouldn't buy a HD camera, right?

Getting back to the original topic, I've literally just received notification that the Universal FCP upgrade has been dispatched by Apple. Estimated delivery will be 31st.

If anyone else on the forum receives their copy sooner, a heads up on the inclusion of the 720p/50 support would be great...

Sorry to stray off topic again.

Yes, the LCD on the Z1 is much better. The Focus assist on the HVX is pretty good from my limited experience though. Try plugging the HVX into a HD Ready tv and switch between SD and HD, will give you an idea of exactly how sharp the HVX is compared to SD.

Amazing how different people see things differently, I actually think that the HVX build is pretty robust. The first thing we thought (me and the DP) is how rugged it was.

The Z1 is much cleaner than the HVX, but I'd rather be able to light and it create a great filmic image than have nice electronic looking video in any situation. I think it's a horses for courses thing. I'd ideally like to have a Z1 for some circumstances if I can pick a second hand one up cheap.
