(HVX Bootcamp) What would you like to know?

Tripod?

Tripod?

Hi Evin,

What would you like to see us bring to the class? Besides our HVX's of course?

I'd like to see you guys bring an open mind. The gear will be pleantiful, but if all you get out of this seminar is how to set scene files I'll be dissapointed.

ha ha well said Evin.

and i dont think anyone will be dissapointed. A few weeks ago i showed up "on set" of a production Evin was shooting and I learned about 12 incredible tricks is many minutes... Evin alone is worth the show all by itself, trust me. The guy is a master.

I think an important issue to cover in this class is the best use of the HVX in low light situations.
Although workflow is an important. I'd rather spend more time with the camera than at a computer. We can get most of the editing info we need online.

Perhaps I am blind, but in going through this thread I can't see reference to the actual date of the first bootcamp and how one registers. I understood the first would be held in L.A. in early or mid April. Is this still the plan? I'm very much wanting to block my calendar out and register. If there's another thread I should be referring to, please let me know.

THANKS

Mark

Vislaw: April 8.

Barry, Jarred, Evinsky:

I've been thinking: I don't know if Abel has a 2K projector, but I'd love to see a 15 minute "WOW!" movie, even if it's on a hi def DLP projector.

THink you guys might arrange that?

Mark-
The first class is on April 8th and it is full. I don't think Jarred and Barry have worked out the other dates. When they do, I'm sure they will post it.
You can also periodically check www.hdbootcamp.com to see if registration is available. There is no link for the registration now because the class is full. When they line up another class they'll probably replace the link. Keep in mind the next class won't be in LA.

If there happen to be any more openings for the April 8 bootcamp, please let me know. I will be traveling from Chicago with one other person for the workshop, that is, if we get in. Thanks.

I will be bringing a 720P DLP projector and yes you will get to see some "Eye Candy"

We can nag Evin to bring his projector. I have a few minutes of some "wow" stuff, hopefully the other gents will bring more.

I will be disappointed cause I won't be there :crybaby: At least this way they will have worked all the bugs out of the presentation by the time they do the next one, so I'll get a better presentation

bugs.. what bugs :)

I hope that based on this request for info that a loose outline of topics can be created and followed to get as much out of the day as possible, but to keep it fun and loose so the presenters don't feal like circus performers......uhhh wait isn't Barry from Vegas?

The things that interest me are:
1. Basic Camera Setup for a few different scenarios.
A. Run and Gun harsh outdoor light
B. Talking Head interview
C. Filmic and highly stylized

2. Green Screen Setup. Both SD and HD. Are there going to be lights and a backdrop available?

3. Using the HVX in studio environment straight into FinalCut.
A. How to set up camera and FinalCut setting to match
B. Jam Syncing multiple cameras
C. Audio Setups
D. Best choice of Video Mixer for both SD and HD (I wish this event was post NAB, probably alot of answers there).

4. Tricking Out the HVX, from practical to wild. I have already had customers tell me that the stock camera just doesn't have the "look". They would rather see me with a Canon XL1/2, JVC etc.
A. I'd love to compare some of the available Matte Boxes
B. Rails and focus assist
C. Cartoni Fluid Head and Sticks
D. Steadicam Rigs of any type
E. Attachable Field Video Monitors

Tips, tricks and rumors
A. As an example, at DVExpo (Dec 2005) a Panny Engineer told me that you could plug any firewire drive into the camera directly and record to it. Only problem was that there would be no indication from the drive or the camera if you got the shot. You would have to wait until you hooked it up again to a computer.
B. Andromeda status if any
C. Final Cut settings for slow mo

That's it for now.

Thanks,

Rob

thanks for the input Rob, I will make sure we cover as much of your list as possible.

We are going to have the chromatte people there to demo some greenscreen stuff which should be very interesting, and we may setup a normal screen just as reference, and our very own Noah Kadner will be there to cover all things FCP.

Customers don't like the look of your camera? That's brilliant, remind them of that when you hand them the finished product.

Cuz ya know, Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitar was just too beat up and ugly to produce a decent tone...

I'm planning to use the HVX to shoot a feature-length project for filmout, so I'd like to know:

1.) Practical shooting and lighting tips / techniques (especially for filmout) - Day and Night.
Any pitfalls to avoid, tips on how to avoid blown-out highlights, get the best results

2.) specific camera/scene-file settings for good filmlooks

3.) recommended P2 workflow methods,
tips on archiving P2

4.) audio -on the HVX - things to look out for.

5.) tips/ideas regarding use of 35mm adapters

6.) recommended tools on a budget (mattebox, follow focus, monitor, 35mm adapter, external drives, Kona/Blackmagic card etc.)

7.) tips about using Final Cut Pro & P2, HD post-monitoring options on a Mac.

Thanks,

Richard
