Wow..
So much indecision :)

I have yet to use the H1, but I'm sure it's decent camera for 1080i stuff.

Hi Steve!

That's the problem when you have two great products that have their own good features. If it were a clear deciding factor it would have been easy. However I put my money were my mouth is and bought both of them costing me 16,000 + to do these tests. I am very dedicated to the craft and don't just look at the surface , however dig as deep as possible and push the extremes when I'm there to see all the variables. If I'm going to do something, I am doing it full throttle, otherwise it's a complete waist of time. Ask Barlow, we talk on a daily basis, he knows I put a lot into this stuff......

Congrats Michael. Hey, if the H1 fits your requirements, I'm sure it will work fine for you. Keep up the good posts man!

Now if I could just find a way of owning that dang 13X lens for the HD100.
I saw Tim's rez post an this and the rez is better than the stock lens.
I think I need to rent this lens soon.

Gotta hand it to you Michael. You not only talk the talk, but also walk the walk. Seems like you took a hard road to come to your decision but you probably are in a positon to honestly promote either camera because you've been under both extensively for the last month.

I'm most looking forward to the result's of your choice. What show are you shooting with the H1 and when can I see it?

I have to take the camera of the market - for now!

I just got called by an agency that has seen some of my material. They would like me to film their actors for some project. The HD100 was requested from their technical team. I don't know what exactly impressed them, however if I had put my finger on one thing it would be the rich skin tones and naturalistic feel you get from the images from the HD100.... I guess I could convince them to use the Canon, however I loooovvvvveee working with the HD100 and the images I can dial in...... I will keep you all updated and hope to get a release to upload clips when I have them.

Hey Steve! I won't disagree with you one single pixel of your true raster fully packed more than varicam's ccd in that wonderful HD100 of yours!

I just need to delay the sell for a day or two, maybe longer. I will know tomorrow.

However since I am getting a good pay check on this shoot. I will lower the price a few hundred more bucks on the HD100 when done with this agency shoot.

So if anyone is interested, hold tight & still send an email, I will hold on to it.

I took both the HD100 and Canon XLH1 to show the agency and others. We had actors stand, pretty much screen test stuff. The HD100 SSE issue showed a few times. Not to pleased with that, however after I left I took it to JVC into Cypress and they have it get "A"ed.

The HD100 really did impress the people too! We shot straight to the media dept mac laptop and captured the m2t files instead of to tape. We viewed it on my Dell 24". I will keep you all updated!

That's interesting. What software did you capture to on the mac laptop and what framerate? Are they editing on a Mac?

Did you give the HVX200 a good test run also?

Incredible.

I swear, I could write a skit easily off of your experience.
If you filmed it you could have an unrated version with restored scenes of those cameras having a little R&R time.

Yikes!!

I would really love to have the HVX200 for testing over a 3 week period. The HVX200 has wonderful rich color tone as the HD100 does. The XLH1 is the blandest of the bunch. The XLH1 has more res than them all, however it does lack the color that I like from the HVX/HD100.

The Software I am using is XDHDV for getting the m2t files. Simple, however it's a very effective program!

I think the HVX200 does produce nice colors.
My only concern is the noise/macroblock in low light.
We have done a lot ot testing comparing the HD100 and HVX200.

Most of the testing is just set the cameras up and aim at the same subjects.
We tried to get the colors on the HVX closer to what the JVC using Paolo's color matrix. Many have reported how well the HVX looks when given a decent exposure. I have to agree it looks good.

They both have their shortcomings. I really could CARE LESS about who makes what camera. I am agnostic when it comes to brand names.
The HD100 really does produce some awesome looking footage. Sure the stock lens has CA, but at least you can change the lens out.

I wish I had another 8K to buy the 13X lens. Based on Tim's rez charts comparing the stock and 13X lens, the sharpness off test showed 200 lines more of rez using the 13X. I could only image how good this must look with the HD100.

One thing I really like about the HVX is how well it handles motion. Image quality is never compromised.
