Yes I'm afraid I have another adaptor.

rabbitearsmedia- sorry you couldn’t access the footage: my server contract had expired and I was trying to get a better deal elsewhere. They gave in and I renewed. It is available to watch now. And re: your plans to build one- whether its mine, marlenes, snodarts, moochy's... its all good. Pick what’s within your budget and technical means. Marlene has had great results so you should do well :)

Marlene: well- keeping in mind that I am watching a small QT- the D screen seems a bit hotter in the center than the AOL Case. I watched frame by frame during the switch over, and the D screen has a subtle amount of darkness on the left and right edge. Now you stated that you don’t have the condenser on so that would make sense- as my D screen with the built in condenser has shown no hotspot.

Now the AOL screen: and without a condenser mind you- shows light much more evenly throughout the frame. Hmmmm....

Intriguing, but I would save anything conclusive for a test on a monitor (which you are doing). Two things you might want to also try: 1) try some panning shots in addition to the rack focus- GG characteristics become much more visible during movement.

And 2) try this little Pepsi challenge: show your footage on your best monitor to a friend(s) who have had no knowledge of your testing. Ask them "tell me the difference between these two shots" and see if the average viewer notices anything.

If all goes well this could be quite a breakthrough :)

Ed.....I did make a DVD and did show to a friend who knew nothing about the adapter thing nor the testing and they preferred the AOL Screen. Both look very good on a large screen TV but I also noticed the slight hotspot with the Nikon D (which has the built in condenser btw).

I will take your excellent advise and try some panning shots tomorrow.

Today I made a tutorial which I will post soon in a new thread.

Thanks for the advice you guys. I'm still assembling the pieces to build and hopefully have time to build one soonish. It dawned on me that this forum is precisely what the internet is for. DVXUSER.com Rocks! Look forward to the tutorial videos.

And while I haven't had the chance to see Ed's footage, just the fotos of his adapter inspired me to dream about creating one, so I can only imagine it looks great.

Ed.....I'll do more serious testing with the AOL Screen tomorrow and make a DVD. I can mail it to you so you can help me and the others judge this thing. Whatta think?

im impressed with the aol case... where do u find these?
ive used everything.. the beer cup.. to go cup... they work.. but each ohave their own flaws.. beer cup has some weird lines and u can see when u pan.. does the aol have this problem?

ps.. my guy just got his d screens in.. i went to check em out.. the one i saw had a little scratch looking thing in it.. kinda what mine has.. just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with a d screen

Talking about making a screen out of anything.....when I started to build my own 35mm adapter almost 1 1/2 years ago, I was experimenting with anything I could find. I have already posted some of these before but if you would like to see different GG, here are some links to my earlier attempts and most recent ones

I had no idea a presentation binder surface could work SO well as a screen (if it's clean).
The Beattie, obvioiusly, was the best of the bunch though.

Did you like it?

is it possible to be able to bypass the macro? .. say.. if you use the cd case screen and enlarge it? or will the dvx not be able to focus on this alone.?

Wow.....these are great! I love seeing the comparison of different screens and can see how each has a quality all to their own. This shows how screen selection can be used just as effect filters are used. I'm pumped.

The Velum paper gives an old film look which I like. Funny thing is, the one I liked the least is the Nikon D Screen which is how I feel about mine.

Thanks for posting these comparisons!

I suppose you might be able to get away without using a macro if you made a long adapter. I haven't tried this but you could test the DVX without a macro and see how close you can focus, note the distance, and that would be the distance your screen would have to be away from the dvx lens.

Ya'll are getting me so psyched about attempting to DIM.

Has anyone ever used the protective back lense cap/cup as a mount ?

In my case, it's a nikon endcup. I was gonna hollow it out, slide it into the PVC end cap hole that's the same diameter and JB weld it together. The cup 5/8" deep.

As per Ed's suggestion I did some fast panning with the AOL Screen in the adapter. This footage has no entertainment value what so ever it's just some handheld footage with lots of movement.

I added a +4 Close-up to minimize the amount of zoom I needed since this was handheld.

I'm not seeing anything too disturbing except for a little abberation in a few areas. I intentionally shot in bright sunlight, shadows and in the shop with very low light.

I burned a CD and other than the above mentioned abberation, it looks terrific! I'm now thinking that the aberration could be the resulf of the +4 close-up I had on which is something I probably wouldn't use much anyway.
