The perfect HD on camera monitor for the HVX200?

I checked yesterday and no one is home at the VD-Z3 home page, still. It looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and go with the Marshall LCD. First I'm going to see if I can find a VD-Z3 on line somewhere.

I'm in the same boat. I really want to know if this is a viable alternative to the marshall, otherwise I am getting one as well.

I bought the Marshal and it got here today from Barb at AVS. It was $1235.00 the best price I've seen yet on this monitor.

This adapter should also work well for converting component to vga.
it needs 6 volts, so a portable power solution should be possibe.

the price is also very nice US$ 49.90
Liksang can be trusted, the site is one of the biggest game import sites of the world.
I just ordered the converter, I'll let you know how it works on my 23" sony tft. If that works well I'm already happy. But the marshall seems the way to go if you want a proven solution

Yes, let us know how it did.

I have a shoot comming up next tuesday so I needed the monitor right away and Barb at AVS got it to me in one day for a great price.

Nice pics, I have the Marshall now, just bought the storm case mod # iM2050 and it is a nice fit. But I might try out the above for my B camera.

It would be nice if this were a good setup. So far it doesn't seem to support the hvx200 compatible battery :( but still..

The Xenarc site states the Xenarc 700Y has VGA input, but the 700YV has VGA and video input. What kind of video input and why won't it work?

Ok so who's gonna be the guinipig to get all this stuff and try it out? :D Though Upon further inspection, I think the VGA input on the monitor is something other than the standard VGA. Say's 15 pin D-SUB. I've seen that on many LCD projectors and such. Though you can get an adapter.

mm the battery solution might need some more thinking ..
If the lcd needs 12 volts we need that kind of power, wich a standard camera battery doesn't seem to have.

What kind of battery is used to power the marshall ?

Is the rez on those 7" models enough to check for sharpness though? I reckon the colours might be suspect too. I have a portable DVD player with 9inch LCD, and image-wise it's not that spectacular.

Would it not be better to have a laptop with DVRack? (which is supposedly being updated for DVCProHD) http://www.seriousmagic.com/dvrinterface.cfm

That said, it's not 'on camera'.

For me "on camera" is critical. I would like to use it for focussing on location.
I think 800x480 must be just enough for focus. I'm just not so sure how the internal scaler is on thone units.

If I feed a pal 576P signal from my camera it would have to upscale to 800x480. This I think wont be such a problem.
If I feed it with 1080i It might not be able to handle the deinterlacing and scaling. so there you have the advantage of a marshall V-R70P-HDA.

Or use svideo connection, which I think will degrade the signal too much for critical focussing.
Another thing to watch is that the component to vga converter need 6volt of power, so one might need two batteries. one for the lcd and one for the vga box.

OK, I bought the transcoder from Liksang. It came in today and I hooked it up to my 7" Lilliput wide screen VGA monitor. It works great. Certainly good enough for focus. The monitor overscans, so you can't trust the framing, but focus is spot on. Now, I can have a couple of P2 cards and an onboard monitor for what I was expecting to pay for just a monitor. Sweet.
