New Music Video "You and I"

overall i thought it was v good..pacing , lighting ect..

Really liked the part where the background cars are manipulated in time as he sings in the foreground..i thought more of that would be good .. gave it that music video weirdness that i think is good...

didnt like when he is playing the kurzweil or the guitar indoors and singing..just looked a bit cheesy and unnceccary..out of place.. maybe if those were done to make it look diff/seperate to the other shots maybe, = diff cc , b&w,fps??

and being piccy i noticed a reflection or two indoors in the picture on the wall..thats being well picky!!,..overall i think a great job done it worked for me more when he wasnt singing to the camera but thats just imo.

well done.

cheers

Good Job

Good Job

I thought this was very well done. The color correction you did seemed to work perfectly for the outside shots. The inside shots were not as good because of the light coming through the windows. I enjoyed the crane shot and the green screen shots with the traffice. Overall very good job.

i guess you don't call yourself cheezweezl for nothing. maybe it's just me but i have a really hard time with relationship videos. i don't know why but the video wouldn't load all the way for me. the outside footage looked great, although i didn't really like your cc in the flashbacks. the beginning when he was by the window playing his keyboard looked a bit unnatural. don't get me wrong cheezwezzl, i like the stuff you've shot, but it's just the whole relationship concept that gives me the creeps. the other two videos on your page are great.

man does that mean you had to listen to that song on playback all day??? if so , i'm sorry:Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

but seriously, the images look great - i just thought when he's sitting in the living room playing the keyboard the light from in back of him is WAY too much...looks blown out

i'd also like to see more of the girl's face...some closeups, maybe more emotion (mostly in the begining to set the stage)

I think that opening on shot with the window in the BG is not your best. The EXT shots of the grass and the sunset are much stronger.

Maybe you can find some sort of CC that makes sense with the window so its completely blown out and you can't see that Wrangler in the BG.

Otherwise it looked great. I want a jib :crybaby:

Add some slow-mo steadicam shots and your good to go. :kali: :love4:

thanks for the feedback everyone. lots of technical ideas for improvement. how about the flow of the story? did you get it? this was the first narrative thing i have done. i want to make sure that the story is clear and makes sense.

share with us your color grading, some shots in there looked really good. The song is pretty decent.. That dare shirt threw me off though... lol its like.. are you for real? but I guess he is. I got it though, good work.

Good Color man and CC worked real well But as for thw windo I think you need to put a silk and blow it out even harder if that is what your going for.

Story seems to work well good flow over all. Maybe mix up the stuff on the beach with some more flash backs or something. And if you CC the flash backs not black or white or scipia just something different maybe a tint or something i'll give it a more dreamy look

OK DUDE!,
I love the song, it was superb. I loved your video too, you just gave me some new inspiration which actually led me to study each frame by frame of every scene you shot which also led me to see a mistake that you made, well, not really though. In the room where the artist was wearing a D.A.R.E Black T shirt, I could see you with the camera. I thinking you where panning it on a tripod or something. I could also see you moving back on the dolly.
Look at the back of the artist, on the painting, the very first shot of the artist when he wore the Black T shirt. .... and some other shots too.

I could also be wrong, and the really do like the video. :)

I liked the song, and the video, especially when the words 'rewind' were sung and the traffic went in reverse.

I also noticed the reflection in the picture, but then I always look out for those kinda things anyway ;)

I've played it a few times now, would like to add it to my collection of music :)

very nice job on the photography - and I imagine the blown out windows in the beginning were intentional. Jib shots always add and extra level of production value. Some of the exteriors were pretty damn fantastic actually. I think the narrative is fairly straightforward although there is no real idea, clearly at least, why they break-up. Her coming back doesn't really have any tension when the original cause of the conflict isn't clear to the audience. Overall, a very nice job on the entire package. I did notice, along with the relfection issues, a tripod or dolly of some kind in the background of the shot of Ryan by the beach.

pretty good! I liked jib shots

I noticed your dolly in a lot of those pier/beach shots in teh background...

My Personal and Professional Input

My Personal and Professional Input

Let me preface the input I'm about to give with my background and experience.

I have worked in Video prouduction for over 14 years. I have worked on many higher end music videos while I was in LA California.
My background is in Editing, Camera, and lighting. I did a lot of work with my older brother in Southern Cali who has shot for Monster Garage, Discovery, Tv Infomercial, Music Videos Etc. I learned a lot working with him and watching the shooting and lighting techs.

Having said that. I hope my views and Opinions will help you in your next Video.

**Over all it was a good video. I have seen a lot worse from people who have years more experience.

**The Done wells: There were several shots that really stuck me as "The Money Shot." The first shot of the girl holding the Photo Album. Very nice.

**The Shot of the couple at the dock holding each other with the boat in the background as the crane lifts up to reveal them.

**Timelaps Clips done really well.

Now...Please don't take this wrong. I'm not picking on your video. BUt I am going to PICK IT APART in hopes it will give you something to use in your next video. (I will be posting my videos here as well in the near future, so you will all have a fair shot at me as well. ) :kali:

**I would have not shot into a window spilling ambient light into a room with my subject light with a soft box. I would have closed the curtins. (unless you were really going for the "BLOWN OUT - Artsy" look, which it didn't really look that way.

**WATCH REFLECTIONS! I could see the reflection of the OPEN window in the picture behind the singer. You should have at least CLOSED THE CURTINS for those shots. I also saw you, the soft box, and the crane in the reflection as well.

**STEADICAM! STEADICAM! I would have deffinetly used a steadicam for this video on the out door walking beach shots as well as the indoor shots of the talent walking around and running out the doors.

**Framing. There were a few shots where you cut off the singers head. One indoors with the camera crane at the keyboard as the crane was coming down.
And one at the beach as you were walking around the singer. It looked like you fell into a sand hole.

**Lighting, LIGHTING! The lighting was good, but was lacking. (I know....I know..BUDGET! You get what you pay for. BUT....I will just throw this in as feedback.

There were several shots indoors that really needed a splash of color from some gels. IE: Girl sitting on the couch (shoot in between the time laps clips.)
You framed her off to the right side and you left a big bare yellow wall staring at me in the face. I would have splashed a little color onto the wall in the background and moved the lamp and Speaker. Maybe looked for a Fake Plant or something to put there.

There was another shot twords the end where the couple is getting back together and she comes up to the door. You had your camera White Balanced for the Indoor light but you were shooting her standing out side at the front door. Everything was BLUE! :undecided

I wouldn't have tried to mix Indoor and Out door light. Very hard to pull off well.
I would have closed the Blinds, splashed some color back lighting on them, and completed my lighting with the normal Key, Fill, ETC.

Now...If only we all had enough money....(I know I don't) 24P WITH A LETAS35!! Ya baby!

Key points. Pay attention to Lighting, Lighting, and Lighting. Framing, little details such as reflections. Because not to mix different color temps such as out door and indoor. AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

All in all a GOOD VIDEO!!!

I really hope this helps and doesn't offend you. Like I said, I will be posting my work here soon and you all can take your shoots at me as well. :kali::Drogar-Angry(DBG):

And always remember, HAVE FUN AT WHAT YOU DO DANG IT!

Hey, dont want to be rude but if you wouldnt mind sharing I'd really like to know how much you charged. I'm trying to get serious about music videos as well and I have about 3 paying videos in the works as well as another semipaying one. So I'd really like to know what you are charging to help think about how I should price myself in the future.

Anyways about the video I thought it was pretty cool. I'm a sucker for jib shots although I think they might have been a tad overused in this. Also if you are looking for critiques the color really didnt do it for me. For things out of control I didnt really like the way the singer sang and how he wore a DARE shirt...but that has nothing to do with you.

I liked alot of the camera movement and I liked the idea of the sped up background although it looked a little obviously green screened but I just hate greenscreen so its fine. It reminded me alot of my music videos in some ways although different in others. I thought alot of the crane shots were similar to what I have done, as well as the guy/girl storyline and the time remapped shots. http://www.stickypod.com/videos/data/523/Pilot_Vid.wmv is the link if you wanna check out the similarities yourself.

Also, more prying but are you a film student or a professional or what. I'm just interested because I'm trying to make money with music videos myslef as a highschool student and can relate to what you are doing. Congrats on getting a paying gig, I havent gotten that far yet although very soon I will.
