HVX 720pn on a 50-inch Pioneer Plasma.

My neighbor got a brand new 50-inch Pioneer Plasma HD monitor the other day. It only does 1280 x 768, but my 720pn footage looks absolutely amazing on the screen --- much better than it looks on my Dell 2450. Any one who has doubts about this camera really needs to see the footage on a big screen. I haven't been this excited since I got my DVX!

Great news Darwin, How'd you output to the plasma? With the component cable that comes with the camera?

Yes --- with the component cable from the camera, into their "HD" box, and then out to the monitor via S-Video. I'm sure it would have looked even better through an HDMI (or DVI?) output, but they didn't have that yet. Still, the image was quite stunning.

Very cool, I have an HDI connection from my HD box to my TV. I wonder if it will make much difference from S video. I'll give it a shot.

thanks,

Wow!, that's great news seeing that an s-video is a more narrow pipeling than say straight component. Why don't you try taking the footage from your component output directly into the plasma? Thank's for the report.

Yes, I thought that hooking up the component directly to the plasma would be the way to go too. But it wasn't my TV and that's where my neighbor told me to plug in (The "HD box"). So, when in Rome... Next time I'm over there I'll see if I can't do that.

Hiya:

We just got the 55" Pioneer Elite as our client monitor in our Symphony Nitris bay, it looks pretty good, I agree. We also have a 19" JVC HD CRT that matches the color characteristics of the Pioneer pretty well. Using a lot of adjustment and scopes, we haqve been able to get them to match pretty well although the JVC shows a lot less noise and more realistic blacks.

Enjoy and get one yourself!

I just got back from a family reunion in Yuma Arizona with 35 people. It was my first chance to really "run and gun" with 2 - 4 gig P2 cards and my G4 laptop. I was really happy with the worklow of ingesting into the G4. (I imported right off the card into FCP...I hope this does not mess with the raw footage...) I went for 2 days shooting, ingesting and looking at the footage played back on the G4. it looked really good. Then I asked my brother if I could hook up the camera to his 52" Mitsubishi DLP display through component in and view my material right off the P2 cards...

OHHHHH MYYYYYY GODDDDDDD!!!!!!

People milling through the room stopped dead in their tracks.
"You shot that with that camera??!!!...It looks just like a movie" was the most common comment. And they were right. Within 3 minutes evryone in attendance was standing in front of the monitor in a daze. No noise, no "rez problem". Just bright, clean beautiful images with an amazing color palatte. Motion looked great. (720 30PN)
It was the first time I saw what this camera can really do.

BTW, focus was always easy and accurate with the focus assist. I used manual exposure adding or losing the ND filter as needed. I believe I stuck with scene 5 for everything.

Now if I can only get the same output to an HD monitor from the G4 off of the FCP timeline I'll be happy. I see a thread has been opened on how to do that.

I'll be waiting.
I AM PSYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYCHED !!:love4:
:bath: ...Wow. what"clean" footage...
