HELP: Name some "Feel Good" Songs & Movies

Kirk Gillock

Rebel with a cause
Building a database of meaningful song lyrics and movie titles for Isara. Basically a place where people can visit and feel good. Movies that have made you laugh, feel good (not porn :) ), or inspired you. Basically, anything from "Airplane" to "The Shawshank Redemption" or "Don't Worry Be Happy" to "Imagine."

Here's what I have so far. It's not much and some will be removed.

If you see a title you like listed please click it and post a comment. If you can suggest some new titles please post them here.

Thank you for your help.

err... I just looked at that list, PK, and I don't really think Constant Gardener, Shindler's List or Braveheart make me feel good...
Actually, the whole list is rather weird - The Matrix and Batman Begins, Saving Private Ryan and Superman that has yet to return... even Into The Blue (though, I guess this one could make you feel good in certain places)

Braveheart is a very inspirational story about one man, in a dress and hair extensions, fighting for FREEDOM!!! (isara)

Shindler's List and Saving Private Ryan, although depressing as hell, also shows the power of just one man (Spielberg). :)

Constant Gardener I haven't seen, but anything about gardening can't be too bad. :)

Into the Blue is actually a very touching story about a man who gives up money for love (granted, it's Jessica Alba love).

Batman Begins and any other superhero movie is about good versus evil. Except for Daredevil, Electra, and Catwoman which were Hollywood versus good moviemaking.

The Matrix falls into the category of "some will be removed". :)

vital - Groundhog Day will be added. Good times. Thanks!

Go see it.
Oh and, no, it's definatly not a "feel good" movie.

If you want feel good, how about "Shining" :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

- Mikko

For movies, ones that always make me feel good and laugh:

Overboard (Goldie and her man)
Top Gun (simply for the beach volleyball scene, perhaps, I dunno)
Rock Star (Mark Wahlberg, dont ask me why, I love this movie)
ET (c'mon...its ET!!! and its timeless)
Forrest Gump (wish we could all be that innocent and honest and clear)

For music:

Sombrero (They Might Be Giants album: Mink Car) actually, anything from this album
Beautiful World by Cold Play (? dunno if that's the song title)
Blue Summer (?) Bangles
Believe by Joe Satriani
Someone Like You by Van Morrison (if I ever get married again, this is THE song)
Colorful by The Verve Pipe
Free Fallin by Tom Petty

:)
awwww, now look what you've done. I want to make a mix cd now! :)

The new Shining is the feel good movie of the year. :)

Of course "feel good" is very subjective. Yes, there are a lot of movies that don't leave you feeling good, but their messages are good ones. Hotel Rwanda is a very emotional film that doesn't leave you smiling, but the message is about one man who saved over 1,000 people. If we think about the positive then we'll all feel better and be inspired to do more. If we only think about the negative then we won't ever be motivated to do anything. It all depends on how you look at it. I guess.

Forrest Gump is on the list http://www.isara.com/content/view/65/97/ . "Free Fallin" is definitely a feel good song. Will find the lyrics now. I'll look into the others too.

This might sound weird but "Hustle and Flow" was a "Feel Good" movie to me. I can relate to the drive to "make it" he had.

I remember seeing The Hurricane. I'll check out all of those suggestions.

Aram - I never saw the movie, but because it spoke to you, that means something. I'm eventually going to have indivduals submit films and give their review of how it "spoke" to them and motivated them. Because some films don't speak to people, but when they read how it effected another person they can watch it again with a new perspective.

Doe and done! :)

Come on all you movie fans. You must have a list of films that you watch anytime you're feeling down. Some guilty pleasure movies or music. Share with the rest of the class!

Pleasssssseeeeee.

The coldplay song you were referring to, Thartley, is actually called "Don't Panic"

speaking of which, I really thought Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is good for a laugh. The book especially, but the movie is fun enough for a viewing.

And for music, the song by Buckethead called "All in the Waiting" off of his album Electric Tears is one of the very few songs that have illicted an uncontrollable smile from my face. Buckethead expresses so much emotion through a mask and a lack of vocals that it's amazing. He conveys moods and his spirits with a guitar. Most people can't even express themselves period, but he doesn't even need words to do it.

If the definition you're going by is movies to watch when you need to boost your spirits...

I agree with VirtualLuminosa about Ground Hog Day. Two more that do it for me are Dazed and Confused (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106677/) and Clueless (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112697/). Oh, and American Graffiti (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069704/). All have great soundtracks, too.

And when I want to be entertained but not necessarily needing a laugh, Double Indemnity (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0036775/) does it for me everytime, although I don't know if I would call it a "feel good" movie. Finally, I've said it here a few times, but will repeat myself, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064115/).

Oh, and one more... how can I overlook -- for pure joy and laughs -- School of Rock. "Let's melt some faces!!!"
