Are most films shot digitally nowadays?

I think within five years you'll see about 20 % of all features shot entirely digitally and within 10 years about 90%.

I wish! But sorry that won't happen...not that fast.

A unique use of digital is "Corpse Bride", which was shot with Canon digital SLRs.

And it took a lot of convincing to get Tim Burton to do so.

The Genesis is a very impressive camera, there is an awesome article on it at VFXWorld.com, you have to register, but it's a great site.

I think digital is being used a lot more but I have a hard time seeing it being replaced by digital (HD) until the camera comes out that matches all the positive aspects of film AND significantly reduces the costs. Perhaps as the old filmmakers are replaced by the new you will see a gradual move towards film BUT as long as film can hold on to its mystique, it will remain the gold standard. How many here wouldn't LOVE to shoot on film? When the majority of people can honestly say, I'd RATHER shoot digital, film will still be king...

The delivery systems are also going to have to keep pace...

Of course, I just saw part of "Open Water" not too long ago (PD150), and it looked like crap. Not fair to compare 1/3" MiniDV to the Viper or FW9XX cameras, but I'm sure a lot of producers and directors think "digital" means movies like OW or "28 Days Later." Not good advertisements for the medium.

I was impressed with Collateral, and didn't know it was digital until after I saw it. I don't have a trained eye, but I don't think it even matters. I liked the look of the movie, and it looked damn good for being shot almost entirely at night.

I thought collateral looked very digital, I saw it on a monster size screen which might not have helped..... When I saw Wolf Creek I had it in my mind about half way threw that it was HD but a part of me thought 16mm.... so it's getting to the point where it's getting harder to tell... and like it was said there will alway's be the people that want to shoot 35mm but once the Prices come down drastically it won't be as fesable.

Here's a great article on the cinematography of "Collateral."

They shot with the Viper, the F900, and on 35mm film.
