PLYWOOD SKATER Finished

I haven't drilled mine yet - I just finished the cuts last night. But, when I do drill it's gonna be with a press.

Doing it properly is gonna be near impossible with a drill driver...I mean this has got to be EXACTLY perpendicular to the wheel fender or it's gonna wobble. Do whatever you can to find access to a drill press. Only other suggestion is to make sure you clamp that piece down solid, and use a drill that has leveling bubbles so you can kind of gauge what's perpendicular. Worse comes to worse, cut another piece and try again!

wow..

wow..

Hi all, just read all 25 pages, its like reading book, good book..I am totaly building my, starting today...i want to use cnc mashine to cut all pieces, my brother actualy , he got wood shop class, they have that mashine hope that will work out, i aslo will try to make something up about aluminium thingi..well VERY BIG THANKS TO TED for inspiring all of as ... THANKS THANKS AND MORE THANKS>>>:dankk2: I let you know on the progress.

Greetings all. Been a long while since I posted on the skater. I'm finally building mine. I couldn't contemplate making the skater without the HVX.. Would have just pissed me off to shoot with the XL1. Now that time is here. My HVX came in last week. Been shooting like crazy and now it's time for the ultimate tool. So what have I missed....?

I see I've got maybe 5 pages to read. How's the assembly going? Anyone selling the unit?

Also.. Teddy do you have any ideas on an underwater housing? One with controls for zoom and focus and that kind of thing... or atleast modification of like a debob controller or the varizoom.

Hopefully some HVX skater footage on a shoot in 2 weeks. I will post some of my footage soon.. just got to get a server and FCP update for P2. I shot the Sebring car race today. Lots of slow-motion and all kinds of fun things.. but damn, no thongs!

Taking on weight

Taking on weight

Guys,

I tested the plywood skater to take on some load. I placed our new HD100 attached with my DIY motorized medium format lens adapter with an 80mm lens attached.

Its still stable. I don't know about betacam size though.

if no image, click On this link to go to webpage.

I'd like to post a footage sample but it seems stickypod doesn't accommodate us anymore. :(

Any sites out there that host footages?

Teddy.. the innovator.. the original inspiration.. Say it isn't so.. Why on Earth did you buy the JVC over the HVX? I got mine last week and will never ever ever shoot tape again...

Jk.. the JVC is nice.. but not as nice as the HVX. Having shot both.. there's one with Mojo and then there's one without!

Badlaa, teddybear,

Why don't you sell these things fully manufactured and complete? There are those of us without the resources and skills to make a device like this in which precision is critical.

Diy Laser Pointer Mount

Diy Laser Pointer Mount

Guys,

Here's my DIY laser pointer for the Plywood Skater. I figured its faster to setup a shot than to use the calculator. Besides, I don't have a palm and I figured makin this is cheaper. ---and FUN.

Here's the construction diagram.

If you can't see images above, go HERE

Send me an email if you guys need a vector file.

Wish badlaa would share his brake design ...

lol dang man that looks amazing but how do you set up a shot by using the lasers? sorry, I'm so lost here.

Sorry guys, that I haven't been answering the questions for a while. At this moment I don't have my skater here, because I've just rented it for a local film school. So I can't take close-up pictures of the wheel locks, but I'll try to explain.

I used just couple of normal long nuts (don't know their proper name) and embed them inside the plywood. The hole goes all the way through, and when you tighten the bolt, it just grabs the surface of the wheel mount. Very simple!

And there really isn't the danger of damaging the wheel mounts, because only a gentle tensioning is enough.

I'll post detailed photos next week when I get my skater back. I also have the rocker plate under construction and I'll share it's design soon.

I have totally forgot to thank Teddybear for sharing the original plans, It was so exciting to build one. Your attitude is awesome! Thanks dude.

Agreed. I'd pay at least a hundred bucks for something like this pre-assembled.

A hundred bucks would be golden.

I'm in hell with mine.

You guys are really great at building stuff. I'm an idiot.

seriously. I can't even cut a straight line.

aye rook, so you have tried cutting yours? what problems were u having? if you are having problems making a perfect cut, its not really a big deal just remember to cut outside the design because you can always sand it down to the line.

Hit me up if you got any questions on it. I'm always willing to help.

I practically built mine myself but just used my "co-worker's" tools. All I need to do is add the brakes and paint and add decals and I'm good to go.

Hi guys,

plans are not ready in detail yet, but I want to build my skater from aluminium, too. Here are my first 3d pics. What do you think? I am allready talking with a locksmith to do this.

 teddybear, thank you for all the inspiration.
DiVA haven't heard from you but I like your design.
Where are you in the building process??
