My camera (dvx100b) is either broken or I am an idiot! Please, take a look at the red strikes on my test footage (F5, 30p, mpg, 16 sek, 12mb). It also shows similarly on the green color. It doesn’t matter which settings I use: F1-F6, any scene settings: (detail level, chroma level, gamma, matrix, master ped, ect.) shooter speed, progressive mode, interlace mode, w/b balance or anything else.

I can see it on TV as well as on computer monitor. I can’t believe this is an expected quality. If it is indeed normal (you tell me please) then it will be impossible to shoot colorful juicy flowers outdoors (for example). I can’t believe that the camera which costs about $3K is expected to have shooting with such effect!

Unfortunately I can’t compare my camera with another dvx100b one or just another camera… I don’t really know what expected quality is. Could anybody enlighten me in this area? Thanks in advance!

No you are not an idiot. It's the native of the DV. If you do a search here, you will find interesting tips to do in the post.

So, the good news is that your camera is ok.

I'm not sure what we're looking for here. Looks good to me. . . DV's color sampling is sacrificed in 4:1:1 in favor of luminance. In other words, the brightness info is unique for every single pixel, but color info only changes in blocks of 4. This is true for every flavor of DV, even a $15,000 camera. It's most noticeable in very wide shots with lots of detail. Your closeups of flowers should look fine. FYI, this is also why it's bad for chromakeying.

Thanks a lot for your responses. I am really surprised and haven't expected that it is "native of DV"... Well, I guess I'll have to live with what I have :-)

CineAlta: file has the extension .mpg. This format is used to prepare the footage for burning it to DVD. It's must be that Quicktime doesn't support this format...

It doesn't look that bad, try fixing it up in Magic bulletin, see if that works.

By the way, are you the guy who bought the Dvx100b from ebay? or was that just another guy with that avatar?
