A lot of grain

I have a question. Sometimes when I shoot certain things I pick up a lot of grain in my shot. I always keep the gain down, so as to eliminate grain. But, sometimes I get a lot of grain in my shots. ANy ideas?

I ran into this problem as well when shooting my first music video, yet I didn't notice it until after I was done. I was shooting indoors with an Arri 650 and Lowell 1K with Chimera at about full wide iris. Outdoors where I was shooting aroun F8 or so it was much cleaner.

I don't know if this helps, but it seems more light really helps a lot, and keeping your aperature in that "sweet spot".

keeping the matrix set at norm helps some as well and using cinegamma instead of the d or v options.

Well.....it seems that noise is usually present with under lit scenes. When I light indoors I really have to pump it to it.

So, light real bright and turn the iris way down? Is that the trick?

(I also like opening the iris up so I can get a shallower DOF)
